How many of you guys wear a belt?

Agree with above, if you're not competing then why not use them. I initially thought it was like i was cheating myself but quickly realised that was bullsh*t

Even if you're competing there is no logical reason for not using them unless you're lifting pussy weights. Squatting supporting the pain of the iron in your neck will not make your legs bigger, squatting making your belly button coming off your stomach will not make your legs bigger, etc...of course you'll always impress a bunch of stupid kids at the gym; but in my book is more interesting to impress at the beach, or on the stage or in a magazine, whatever...

I use a belt when doing a heavy leg day period. I am not one of them guys that walks around with it on doing curls or anything else, never saw the point of it. I do understand that it makes for good posture though, i learned that from my dad who used to smack the shit out of me and my brother when we used to slouch.
I do wear the straps to do heavy back and shrugs.

Just wondering. For the last year I havn't used anything...no belt, wrist straps, gloves nothing. Lift heavy squats, dead lifts the whole bit. So far so good.

I have one but rarely use it.

The reason for no wrist straps is to improve my grip. My hands are now not the weak link. Like getting calases so no gloves. The belt I'm going to start to use because the benefits are obvious and there is no good reason not to...just for leg day

used to wear one but now I lift to look Pretty and dotn need it

I do use straps for Deadlifts which I do twice a week rain or shine ;)

damn, why did young guns get bombed??

hes been bombed for some reason for weeks lol

BUT pack to the topic.

I do not like to wear a belt trainig. Unless i'm going for a 1 rep single. Even tho alot of people say its safer, it actually is not. It is tricking your body into thinking your core is strong, when in fact it is not, and then will cause muscle imbalances.

I read alot of, "i wish i used a belt in college" in this thread, but here is a question for those guys....Did you train lower back at all? Like really train it? Not do some reverse hypers once in a while either.

Alot of people complain that deadlifts hurt there back, but then will use the squat rack to hold their 30lb curling bars, and then wonder why in the real world when they go to pick up something from the floor they get hurt, ITS BECAUSE THE LOWER BACK IS WEEK.

Straps = only for when you are going to be doing alot of work ABOVE your max Lift. I only use straps when A. My grip is destroyed or B. Doing a partial with a max weight that i can never hold. But i do like them since they let me work a double overhand grip when i use them

Belts = only for MAX efforts.
Anything else, workout your lower back so its strong

I have a herniated disk in my back, I wear one after I warm up an go heavy. I don't have gloves or straps. I may buy some gloves after Datelines investigation on how much fecal matter and nasty bullshit is on gym equipment. :worried:
