How many Marines on this board?

I've noticed a lot of names or pictures of Marines. I'm enlisting next summer and I'd like to talk to some of you guys about gym facilities and running cycles while at the base... Thanks

Semper FI

I am a former Marine. Was an 0311 grunt at first, then went to Ati-terrorism and gun school in VA and then on to Fast Company, finished up my last 6 months of duty in Yorktown, VA guarding Nuclear Weapons Depot. The facilities to workout were ok. I found that mostly Naval Bases had the real nice stuff. But I didn't workout much. The Corps will keep you in shape. We ran EVERY morning, humped 30 miles full gear all the time, lots of pull-ups, pushups, sit-ups etc.. I spent what time I wasn't in the field or training - chasing ass, drinking etc... but I loved it!
Email me if you have any Questions.

30 miles?? that must have been with fast company.. cause the longest we humped was 25 and that was for the MCREE which we only did every 2 years. anywho.. i was w/ 3rd mardiv - y tu?

btw.. it does fucking suck ass to workout if you're with the infantry.. between the field, humps, and cardio 4-5 days a week in garrison.. if you do workout - you end up overtraining and getting absolutely shit for muscle gains.

well.... i didn't go through mct as i wasn't really a marine.. i was a senior corpsman for a line company for two years beforing moving to h&s..

but really... when you're with an infantry unit you do the mcree hump (24miles in 8 hours) every two years...

are you sure you were 0311...?

Why wouldn't I be sure. 0311 rifleman.
The corpsman I knew were pretty hardcore they went through just about everything we did. My origianl MOS was Security forces but you had to go to MCT & then School of infanty before going on both at Camp Pendelton. My last 6 months was with Marine Corps Second Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team in Yorktown, Va.

I have been out for 4 years now. I would not trade my time in the Corps for anything. I was 0311 ground pounder! I did 2 years at Camp Lejune, NC. During that time I went to Cali. for CAX (Combined Arms Exercise) for 2 months, did a 6 month Mediterrainian float (1 month of that was in Bosnia), 3 month tour in Panama. I wa then transferred to 8th & I, Marine Barracks Washington D.C., where I joined the one and only USMC Silent Drill Team. I was the only one on the Team with more than 2 medals and I was the most senior except for the platoon Sgt. USMC Blues are the best looking uniform in the armed forces, but the Blues coat w/ the white pants were the $hit!!

As for the working out part... you may as well hang up the weight belt if you are going into the infantry.

Base Gyms and Juicin'

Cowboy, I got out of the Marine Corps in Jan of this year. I spent two and a half years in Pendleton and one in Okinawa. In my opinion, Camp Pendleton is the place to be. 33 area gym is THE shit, atleast when I was there. And you're an hour and a half from Mexico. My friend and I juiced when we were there. I remember taking my reforvit bottle to work every day for a month. The Pendleton commisary kicks ass too.

1991 - 1996. Dont laugh to fucking hard but I was 0131 Admin Air Winger for an EA6B Prowler Squadron VMAQ-4. BUT I did do alot of field training and had a chance to see the world. 5 countries in 5 years. The Best place I seen by far Was the Land Down Under. Darwin Austraila! I was single at the time and met lots of real nice women. Some of the Best friends Ive ever met came from the Corps and I would do it all again. Cherry Point Weight room sucked badly. Way to small. Plus everytime you turn round you are packing to go somewhere. But if you get stuck on boat there is no better place to lift. nothing to do but clean weapons and lift and eat. Any more questions feel free to pm me. later.

Damn, i had no idea there were this many Devil Dogs on here...I've been in for 2 and a hlaf years and it's great, other than all the bullshit!1..:)...I went in as Aviation Supply and now I am stationed at a Reserve Base and I am an NBC Instructor..Yes it sucks...Talk too yall later,,and good luck too the guy that is joinging next summer!!...Semper Fi Devil....

Don NOT do anything with 03,13,11,01 as the MOS feild.
The best job is ATC air traffic control. Bonus every reeenlisment.

I'm still in and have been in for 20 years. Have done all trades. 0341, 8511, 6353, 8411, 6312, 6391. I was a recuiter for 3 years and will give you the straight scoop and what you need to know. I love the Corps and knw that those have sreved, like it or not have been marked for life. They are my brothers, and only the Corps has the life that others wish they could achive.

ex Army Airborne infantry here but I can tell you that most military gyms you go to are pretty good. If you are a grunt, you might not be able to devote as much time and discipline to lifting weights. Also in the infantry (especially airborne) YOU WILL RUN ALL THE FUCKING TIME. 7 miles a day if I remember correctly with a 13 miler every friday. In this type of situation gear would be a waste!

Just got commissioned this May. Went though my 12 weeks of OCS and now waiting for my god damn slot into the Basic Officer Infantry Course. Getting the runaround though. Was supposed to leave in July. Then it wasn't, then it was, not its not until December. God damn. I'm starting to wonder if I'll have to retire before get started. Whats the point of wearing bars if I have to wait 7 months to pick up a damn weapon and qualify.
After the 6 months in Quantico I'm hoping to pick up a Naval Flight Officer slot and make it to F-18's.
Any advice for a new 2nd Lt. would be very helpful. I'm going to try as hard as possible not to be some unsat Lt who has no respect for the enlisted but has no idea whats going on. I know everyone has their stories about at least one....

About juicing....hell no. To me, its completely not worth it. God damn, imagine the hell of getting caught. If you're dishonorably discharged for a reason like that it might mess up the rest of your life when you go out and try to find another job.
Semper Fi and good luck GearCowboy

I was in for 6yrs 90-96 I first was a 1371 w/2nd fssg 8th
engineers, went to the storm for 6 1/2 months, when I got back went to sec. force bat. was a Marine Cadre and went to Nas Pensacola, f@*#ing best place for a fleet Marine tobe stationed. Navy chic's love Marines.
Pat1USMC if you do get a slot to become a pilot you will learn what I'm talking about, because you have to go there for all your aviation schooling. then depends on what plan you get from there. And about the AS in the corps. you will learn there are alot of devil dogs that do it. As far as getting caught it's like anyother piss test, they don't test for it. I work in SACO in charge of piss testing. They would have to be after you and request a special screening.

Wow, there are a lot of Marines. I was wondering how many of you guys did cycles of gear while on base. Do they do any kind of drug testing? Also, I got mixed responses about the gym facilities... How nice/big are the gyms at Pendelton. I was going to go infantry at first, but I heard from one of my buddies that they have a firefighter job in the corps. Does anyone know if this is the way to go? Thanks...

I am also active, i am an Instructor in my MOS (ordnance) and yes I know quite a few jugheads that juice, the Corps has a zero tolerance for drugs but as far as riods go from what i have seen, most seem to look the other way, if you are selling and making an ass out of your self and drawing attention, then they will be forced to bust your ass right out with a Bad Conduct Discharge, and then you are marked for life. If you plan on it, just lay low and don't be all bragging about the shit to everybody and don't keep it in your barracks room and you should be all right, if you bulk up real quick and get a few zits no one is going to yell "test this guy" The test is booku bucks that most unit commanders won't wnat to pay just beacuse you put on some mass, and you might test negative and they waste there money, it just doesnt happen, I have never heard of any Marine getting tested in my 7 years. be safe

0352 - anti tank assaultman

3 1/2 years in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. A real rough enlistment that was. Had a blast.

Good luck
