How many hunters are there on here

hunters, please answer these questions:

a) have you ever shot another human in a non-combat situation?

b) have you ever seen a hunter shoot another hunter?

c) ever known someone who shot or got shot?

Basically what I would like to know is, FROM A HUNTING STANDPOINT, is Dick Cheney a complete idiot, or could it have happened to anyone?

Also, how common is it to go ahead and disregard the laws and go shoot whatever you want without buying a license?

well I guess it could have happend to me...I forget to open the gun and point it down when walking around the gun club lol

On the other hand, Cheney is clearly a tool

a) No
b) No
c) Knew a dude who shot another dude in the foot with a .22

FROM A HUNTING STANDPOINT, I don't believe in accidents. If your not familiar with gun safety, then you shouldn't be out there. I don't rifle hunt anymore, bow hunting only for me.

I hardly think something that happened over the weekend qualifies for "last week"

Also, I just saw the most detailed story about it in the press.

Jack--what about the license?

I always get a license. The DNR will make you pay dearly for poaching.

First off you need a licence, I was unaware that he didnt have a licence. Second, hunting accidents happen all the time, but they happen when someone is not being as careful as they should be. If the report is correct, that Cheney didnt know the other man was approaching him from behind, then it is mostly his fault for not making everyone aware of where he was at the time. But, that still is Cheney's fault for not knowing the whereabouts of every hunter that he is with. Pretty much, no matter what happened, Cheney wasnt being as careful as he should have been and is definately responsible for the mistake.

No to all 3

Accidents can be caused by either the Shooter or the person Shot.

On a flushing hunt, never move to the outside of the two people who border the hunt. Shooting a shotgun is a lot different than a rifle, the barrel obstructs more of the view as the sights aren't raised. That being said, all people should be aware of everyone in the party.
