How many days till ketosis?

It`s day 2 of CKD (midday) and I`m still negative on the ketostix. When is it supposed to hit ketosis? day 3? day4? I`m in the fourth week of CKD but just got the stix.
Also I guess "negative" means NOT IN KETOSIS. What would you want to see in ketosis? ALL the way to the right of the chart? or just "there" middle?
 
it depends on your diet and training. you need to use up all the glycogen stored in the liver from your carb up. and you also need to be intaking up to 30gr carbs a day, with only up to 6gr carbs per meal.

another thing is that ketostix are not very accurate. they only measure the ketones in your urine. another reason for you not to show any traces on the ketostix could be that you are using up all the ketones for energy.

so don't sweat it too much. if your diet and training are in order you should be fine. do you already feel the metallic sticky taste in your mouth? if so, then you are most likely in ketosis already.

if you are not already supplementing with ALA or r-ALA you should consider it. it will help you get back into ketosis faster after a carb-up.
 
Thanks Millie, Yes I get that taste in my mouth, also when I wake up my mouth is SOOOOOOOOO DRY I have no idea why. Anyway I`m not too worried about it because I`m down 15 pounds in 3 weeks/looking better. can`t complain.
I heard R ALA will kick you out of ketosis.

I`m on a CKD with really no carbs days 1-6 then refead on day 7. I workout day 1+2 then 6+7 I do whole body circuit w/o high reps and cardio about 5 or 6 days/week.
 
I don't think you HAVE to get 30g carbs a day.... I think that's the maximum, but you should aim for much lower than that. In fact, I think you should aim for zero.... but inevitably you'll take in some.
 
gonelifting, it sounds like you are in ketosis and since your weight is going down, then there is probably nothing to worry about.
maybe you are confusing r-ALA with something else. r-ALA is a glucose paritioning agent, which means it will shuttle glucose into the muscles, and it really helps with getting you into ketosis faster. once you are in ketosis you don't need to take it. there is a lot of information on ALA and r-ALA here on the boards.

DanielBishop, yup you are right. UP to 30gr a day is the max. but everyone is different. some people actually get away with eating even more and still maintaining ketosis. but the 30gr is a general guideline.
 
My carb intake is 50-60g and I stay in ketosis until carb up. After carb up it generally takes my 24 hours to be solidly back in ketosis. Guess I'm just blessed! :D
 
I stil have great workouts while in ketosis.. i think i'm weird.

That`s why in Mr. X`s CKD sample workout plan, he has the workouts "the first 2 days" after carbup. For THAT reason.
