How long until you are completely forgotten after death?

Seriously.... I am thinking 50 years TOPS. That is taking into account your children and grandkids.. If you dont have those then I suppose that the number is significantly decreased..

Yes, you may have fleeting memories of people who have been gone longer than that, but do you really remember them? What they were like, there voice, their laugh, their scent?

It is really pretty sad, you live a life and 99.99999 percent of the people in the world dont even care when you die.

Then after a few short years, the miniscule amount of people that did care if you died, have completely forgotten about you anyways...

Even people who have made SIGNIFICANT contributions to humanity are forgotten.... Sure, there accomplishments are sometimes spoken of.... But how often do you really think of someone who has been dead for hundreds of years...

THIS IS NOT A RELIGIOUS THREAD---------------------
PLEASE DONT MAKE IT ONE

I agree actually. For the most part people aren't remembered. It is sad. Unless people tell detailed family stories from generation to generation or something, I think we're arrogant to think people will know who we were 40 years after we're gone.

addickt, I think you mirror my thoughts on life to a great degree. That kind of scares me, actually. Like you said, we're just here to kill time until we die.

There are many who are gone but not forgotten, there are many who are gone and completely forgotten. I think mostly that "nobody cares" in the long run. Ever seen "A Bronx Tale" when Sunny keeps repeating throughout the movie that "nobody cares", well, in a way, his words are quite on the money. peace

Actually it is more like 99.9999998333- % of the people on the planet don't care. Assuming 10 people gave a shit in the first place.

Let's say you have 2 kids and they have 4 kids so you have 1 to 8 people who really gave shit which brings you to 99.9999999833 to 99.9999998667 percent of the population that just doesn't give a rates ass about your existance.

All the worlds a stage....

I wish I could just think "nobody cares" and do as I wish-- just do what makes me happy because in 50 years nobody will remember anyhow. I guess I just get too concerned about hurting other people.

A guy I used to bounce with died in his apartment when he accidentally put a .44 mag hollowpoint through his femoral artery. Bled to death before the ambulance got there. I went to help pack up his shit for his parents the next day. Some of his frat brothers showed up to help. But some had to study for a test, so they couldn't make it- selfish bastards. People really don't give a shit.

Leave your mark.

that is if you want to be remembered.

Jesus, Mark Twain, Attila The Hun, Ghandi and Robert E. Lee are remembered.
