Hey, there's been a lot of guys reporting good stuff about ALA over here. After reading/researching, I decided to give it a try...
I'm starting my 5th day of ALA @ 1500 mgs - 2000 mgs/day over 6+ doses w/ meals. I'm 6', 215 lbs., +/- 10% bf.
My diet is clean, high protein, moderate fat, moderate carbs (I kept carbs at a moderate level because I was under the impression that ALA had a carb-clearing effect).
I've been measuring my state with ketostix on the 2nd - 4th day. So far, I'm not in ketosis -- not even trace amounts of ketones are being excreted. Does this mean the ALA is not working? Or do you not have to be in ketosis for ALA to work? Or do you have to go into ketosis, but it just takes longer?
I've done ketogenic diets before, but never actually measured progress with the keto stix, so I'm not sure...
