how long to loose muscle?

ive been stuck at 250 on bench now for about 4 weeks ive been trying different stuff. I started the 5x5 then realized i mest up by over calculating everything and so i decided to rest for about a week because i was very sore, so over the thanksgiving holiday thats what i did. I came back monday and decided to restart the 5x5 i set everything at 25 lbs. below what i was doing on the 5x5 before and i couldent even get up my last set I really dont understand the only thing i can seem to do is go down and i was wondering should i have gone down that much on bench? Everything else seems to be fine i might have gone down maybe 5lbs in everything else but the bench amazed me and kinda pissed me off. However i did drop the calories thats the only thing i can think of i went from about 5500 to 2200 a day and i weigh 152 now i lost 4 lbs over the holiday.

your sugar stores are low compared to what they were, and your nervous system is probably not as fired up as when you were "on track". if you were that sore, you might have wanted to keep the calories a bit higher to get healed up. 2200 sounds like a maintenance or below caloric intake and probably didn't help you much in recovering over the break.

yeah that probly sounds right never thought about that and yeah i shoulda ate more but it is a little above maintenance thats i think 1800 and i was just putting on to much weight 6 lbs. a week which was crazy and probly 1/2 was fat

i agree with the caloric intake playing a role in your loss of strength...

could also be you just had an "off day"... sometimes that shit just happens...

yeah i hope it was just an off day, but how long does it take to loose muscle. Before i was out for 5 months and i only went down probly 20 lbs. and i heard u keep ur strength 3x longer than u are sore for but does anyone really know? And yes i know it depends on the person

like you said, everyone is different... muscle loss happens over a long period of time...

but i wouldn't think a younger person 35 or below would have top worry about muscle loss from being sedentary, unless you were literally laid up for months...

Id go with more volume. Personally if I tried to build on 5x5 it would never work. Ive only been able to regain some lost strength on the routine. Different people get different results though. You might want to try a higher volume for chest. Atleast 12 sets of chest once or twice a week. Pyramiding up and then back down to get a good spectrum of rep ranges. Keeping records so you can add weight and reps to each set. Taking each set to failure and trying to beat your personal bests each time. This has been my method for years. For what its worth. KILL THAT SHIT

Tay, are you doing 250 x 5 or 250 1RM?

If you are 150ish and pressing 250 x 5 (or even 250x5x5) then you may be reaching your genetic potential at that bodyweight. Perhaps you will need to gain some weight (even if it's temporary) before you an up the lbs.

Hey WB great to see you back!

I'm doing a 5x5 variant, and in a week I do dips (mon), Bench (wed) and Dumbell Presses (Fri) Thats five working sets each and therefore 15 sets per week. I sure as hell couldn't take any more volume than that!

No my bp is 250x1 maybe be able to get up 260 wish it was x5 thats where i figured id be right now but ive been stuck for about 5 weeks. I figured i cut some and get down to about 5% bf for summer right now im between 10% and 12%. Then im gona try and up the calories to 4000 once i got the money cuz right now my mom cant pay our electric bill, oh well got and interview tomorrow. Ive got a little above $25 to spend a week on food and thats not much at all figured id go on Mr. X's peanut butter diet and buy some protein powder for about a month

And WB thats the first time ive ever heard anyone say that about the 5x5. I was on it for 2 weeks and i cant say much, but i dident like it that much. I think its just cuz my shoulders and back are the only thing that felt really sore cuz i dident work them much.
