how long is it taking for passports to be renewed now?

time to renew it or just take a chance on them overlooking the almost close to expiration date at the airport?

NO ONE is going to overlook the date of expiration. If you go through the mail, if I recollect properly, it takes 3 months, 30 days if you pay a fee to expidite it.

Speaking of which.... I gotta find mine to change the name on it.

Nowadays you can get it within 2 weeks.

24 hours if you go inperson and pay $200 and live in a major city. That's what i did last time.

I think they last for 8 (or 10) years now too.

I went there in person and the illegals ahead of me in line made it a miserable experience. Seriously.

The airport *MIGHT* overlook the close to expiration date, but a cruise line WILL NOT. They won't even sell you a ticket until you furnish a passport on some trips.
