Off and on, about three years, if I don't include the weight training I did in college for a sport.

For Bodybuilding stuff 10months but running, and fitness since 14yr old and

Island Girl no way I didnt know you had a 23 yr old holly molly you dont look old enough to have a teen keep killin it you look GREAT!

I have been running/working out since I was 16.....but it wasn't until the last few months that I actually learned about macros, eating clean, and building muscle. I have been actively lifting now for about 3 months......and I love it! :) I have a goal to have a GREAT BUTT! Might sound funny, but it's the part of me that I have always hated.......well....not anymore. It's my challenge to myself to make it my favorite body part (besides my boobs - lol)......so I won't stop until it is! :) And in the meantime, I'm loving the effects of weight lifting......I was a die-hard cardio girl, so it's a whole new experience for me! :)

That's awesome Amy. Since you were 14? Wow! Props to you girl.

Yuppers. I am not a spring chicken. But thank you for the compliment!

That's cool. What kind of sports did you play? (this is great for a new thread. brb :))

In HS I swam, ran track, and played softball at various times. In college I did crew, which required an extremely high level of power endurance, so lifting in the offseason was a big thing.

Just passed the 3 year mark for serious training. Played a lot of sports in high school and college and then got really really fat....and now....weight lifting! In a way, the gym kind of saved me. :)

I did soccer for years and track then basketball. At 14 I started weight training in Jr high in Greeley then I quit weights till last year when I met my trainer and his wife :)

Started in Feb '03 at age 19 about 3 months before I joined EF. I'd had problems with drugs in high school, went to a federal women's prison at 18 for drug related stuff, and came out committed to getting myself straight in every way.

I started lifting weights when I was 14 not serious I did like buns of steel video's for a year or so. The next year I got hurt and had to sit out soccer season so I strated using weights more in the school gym then I joined a real gym. There was many bumps a long the way falling on and off the wagon until about 23 got body for life fell in love with lifting. Around 24 I meet the only training partner I have really had he was a powerlifter he taught me so many many things. So I guess you can say all total 16 years every year I learn something new about myself and my body dam thing keeps changing on me when I think I have it all figured out. :)

Nice. My son just got done with track (first year middle school). They had their district meet last week Sat. His team got 2nd in the 800 relay.

Never heard of crew. What is that? So this sport led you to serious weight lifting and bodybuilding?

Wow! You turned your life around! I know it wasn't easy, but props to you for doing that!

How long were you in prison for?

Yeah you are right! Our bodies are always changing! I guess that is a good thing, but so funny, you say you learn your body and what it can do and what it can't...then it changes on you. Dang! haha

All you guys are so inspiring, I've only been lifting fairly seriously for a year now, and hadn't really been active since I was 14, when I stopped doing competitive show jumping and dressage (horses).
I also used to compete in cross country running in school, and was on the basketball team (tall) . From 14-33 I was wrapped up in drugs and nightlife, and when I got sober I went to the YMCA three times a week as part of my rehab, and sorta got interested in the benefits of working hard and seeing results. But last year I got my first real gym membership. I'm really enjoying it.

It's rowing....either sculling (each person has two oars), or sweep (each person has one oar) styles. Boats like this (they are sweep rowing):

I would say I've always enjoyed being active and pushing myself to my limits physically. Once i wasn't doing anything competitive anymore, being in the gym was a way to keep scratching that itch.

I've been working out since I was 18. It was right after I had minor heart surgery. My doctor suggested I workout so I didn't have to take medication. I've been at it for 13 wonderful years.

I've been working out for over 15 years. I played tennis in high school and was on the dance team at the University of South Carolina (called the coquettes....their website Home of the Carolina Coquettes Football Dance Team)

But it wasn't until I met my husband that I started working out. It went from aerobics 15 years ago to some weights 10 years ago to serious weights 5 years ago. I feel better today about my self and my body than I ever have.

Wow, minor heart surgery at age 18. You are tough! Training has so many benefits. Props to you!

I love the confidence that weight training gives to women! It's amazing to watch my clients train and transform their bodies and to watch them blossom in so many ways.

You look great in your avatar!

Thats For Sure!! :)

It's gut bustingly hard. Because the seats slide, every part of your body is involved in the motion. Most of the power from the "thrust" comings from the legs. I've come the closest I've ever come to throwing up after a workout during training for races.

BUT - I dig that kinda shit lol.

It's funny....when I'm training, even when I can't yet see physical changes, I start to like what I see in the mirror. I definitely get an extra pep in my step. I took an extended unplanned break over the summer and got back into things about a month and a half ago and my attitude about myself has already drastically changed.

Sounds intense, but yeah, I like that kinda shit ;) too. You must have a bangin' body!!!

I love hearing stuff like this! It always makes me smile! Keep at it! Never lose sight of your goals!

lol one of the nicest things about dating a guy who does powerlifting/is an athlete is that when I tell him I feel like I'm gonna throw up after a lift, instead of telling me I'm crazy, he says, "Awesome, good lift babe." He gets it lol

Yeaaaahhhhh! That is awesome! LOL! Love it!

My father made us jog a lake that was 3 miles around every weekend during school and every morning in the summer. It was a great family activity. Did some track & softball. Started to weight training when my father died to relieve stress 3 years ago. It keeps me sane and now I look better than I did in high school.
