How long can you go without sleep?

why do people underate sleep?

DID YOU KNOW: Research shows that the immune system needs 9 1/2 hours of sleep in total darkness to recharge completely -- the authors of the book Lights Out explain.

Why is proper sleep important?

Cancer cells are always developing in the body. It’s an ongoing process. The immune system has components whose job it is to seek out and destroy cancer cells.

I got this from a website, but it is common sense when you think about it.

I have no idea why people deprive themselves of sleep.

I had to stay awake one time at work because it snowed like crazy and the store closed...but I couldn't leave...neither could anyone else.

After 48 hours....I started seeing crazy things!

84 hours is the longest I have went without sleep...

I used to do the Non-sleep marathon every weekend... I would be awake from 6 am Friday morning and wouldn't sleep again until 10 pm on Monday night....

Your body/brain does need sleep to regenerate itself to help maintain things such as heart rate, body temperature...etc The biggest problems I ever encountered was headaches, especially behind my eyes, being terribly cold, touchiness or lack of patience, and my brain "taking its own naps". Not really blackouts but short periods of time, a minute or less, where the brain would kind of shut-down... The scarest part of the no sleep was always driving, and there is no worse feeling than trying to fight off sleep when you are behind the wheel.

Do all you people who go without sleep find that you become easily overwhelmed or confused? i know when i go about 40 hours that i start to become very easily confused. an action movie where there is alot of movement almost makes me forget who i am or where i live because i cannot follow whats happening. I know that they use that trick for interrogation, just wondering if anyone has experienced it?

From what I recall of sleep studies that I read (not all that many honestly), the thing they saw a lot in people that stayed up a lot was blood infections.

I would imagine that many of the side effects beyond that are related to that - blindness and what not.

I would also say that is likely what resulted in the blindness in one eye of Euler the mathematician (happened during his intense stretches of work trying to figure out Fermat's last theorum).

All in all, if I don't set an alarm, I will easily sleep 12 hours.

it depends on how much meth I have on hand...

I'm an evil bitch if I'm lacking sleep so I won't test out how long I can stay up in order to protect my loved ones.
