I think the original idea behind a volunteer military was that it was supposed to be a meritocracy - it just didn't work very well in that regard.

If a coke-snorting, alcoholic, congressman's son can join a champaigne national guard unit and be AWOL for a year and still become CIC then why shouldn't some out-of-shape fattie be allowed to join?

Do you REALLY think commanders are gonna put him out on the battlefield? Are you even in the military? What kind of comment is that - of course he works a more logistics role. Same argument gets said about fat females, it's annoying. Not everyone in the military needs to be Rambo. Some have to repair the missiles and engines and computers.

Maybe if the military hired more smart people they wouldn't have to pay billions to Raytheon and Haliburton to do anything more complex than putting in a lightbulb.

Dude I've deployed to the middle east going on 4 times now. I think I know what I'm talking about. Get alittle sand time and then talk to me...

Airborne units have very few fatties. most of us swinging dicks are in better shape than 99.9% of the civilians out there. But I agree with you broly...he is no way COMBAT ARMS....People think that every soldier is out there shooting shit and walking up mountains. When most likely he is staioned at an AIr Base....being a turd eating Burger King and Orange Julius everyday.

i agree. but this is the first generation to have the internet, television, radio, accessible libraries etc and is the first generation that has no excuse for its own laziness
