How fast does a fly have to fly into a speeding locomotive to stop it?

In the case of the fly and the train it would have to be inelastic or the train could never by brought to a velocity of 0.

what if the train was going C + 110mph and it actually appeared to be going at a reverse velocity? then the fly flies from the back of the train to the front of the first coach, is it going faster or slower than the train? Hypothetically speaking of course

And, I think Seth may look like Vincent Price??? not sure of the original

Even then the collision wouldn't be inelastic which is what the original question postulated as a result.
so? if its just a stop button, the fly can afford to lose a little energy :)

besides, lets butterfly effect the mofo...the fly could just hover around the train conductor with a velocity and momentum of zero, but the conductor could try to swat it, accidentally pressing the brakes and stopping the train

hmmmmmmmmmm bet you didnt think of that

its alright though. dont feel bad ;)

We'll never know.

if the fly approached the speed of light, wouldn't its mass increase to near infinity, causing it to demolish the train?

Just wondering.

Even the conductor slamming on the brakes swatting at the mythical 300kg fly/train hybrid that looks like Jeff Goldblum or Vincent Price doesn't stop the train instantaneously.

lol! Then the train would definitely be stopped ;)

True, but it would require so much energy to get to that speed it couldn't beat it's little wings fast enough.

Even if he juiced?

Even if he were Dan Duchaine injecting 5g test ED coupled with 75mg Ephedrine hourly.

It woulkd be nice if I could wrap up Newtonian and Relativistic physics in a nice little ball in this thread, but then we start getting into off the wall superstring extradimensional math I can't begin to comprehend.
