I just started CKD today, how does my diet sound?

Meal 1
8 oz grilled chicken breast
lettuce salad with ceaser dressing
24 oz water

Meal 2
few peices of cold cut turkey
16 oz water

Meal 3
same as 2

Meal 4
8 oz grilled chicken
24 oz water

Meal 5 (post workout)
12 oz ON protein shake (50 g protein)
24 oz water

Meal 6
Some kind of meat (steak, chicken something like that)
24 oz water

And on carb up days, i will replace 2 of my meals with one being a plate of pasta, and another meal being a slice of pizza.

how does that sound?

Where is the fat???....thats basically only protein which is not a very healthy diet...i would add a few tablespoons of olive oil , flax and all natural peanut butter in with your meals, also i would replace that 1st meal with something like 3 whole scrambled eggs or something along those lines.

What happens if you don't have fat though in a CKD diet? Also, would olive oil reap the same beneifits of flax oil? One more, does my diet look like it will bring me into ketosis? I am picking up a pack of keto strips on friday to be sure that i am really in ketosis.

i agree w/ NJ....you need approx. 65% fat and 35% protein for ckd. Too much protein is not good on this diet. For fat sources try to get the good fats as your main source. Have olive oil, udo's oil, natty pb, throw some olive oil in scrambled eggs. Use something like fitday and keep a log of week 1 with the proper breakdown of foods then u can go back week after week and eat along the same lines( re-adjust as you lose weight)

Why are you not eating any fibrous green veggies?

Broccoli, spinach, greens, cauliflower.

With your diet, I hope you didn't plan on pooping any. Because you won't be able to.

Add some fiber.

Yeah you can not survive (litterally) if you don't eat a bunch of fat on CKD. You are not taking carbs in which is your bodies main energy source. Because of this you need something to replace the carbs to give you fuel. If your not eating fat your body will just start converting all protein to carbs and once all protein is use, it will start catabolizing your muscle for fuel. DO NOT DO THIS DIET IF YOUR NOT GONNA EAT AT LEAST 65% FAT OR YOU MAY SERIOUSLY REGRET IT!

On another note you should really add A lot of fibrous vegies because they are low carb and will fill you up. Otherwise you will feel hungry all day and be tempted to cheat which will kick you out of ketosis and you will not be metabolizing fat. I would also by some PSYLLIUM HUSK POWDER (fiber powder), because taking a few table spoons of this will help fill you up, and also keep you from getting constipated. If you have no idea about any of this that I am talking about then you should forget about doing a low carb diet and do some more research first.

One more thing when first trying to enter ketosis you should take in a lot of saturated fats and up the Fat intake to about 75%, and lower the protein intake. Then once you reach ketosis switch to eating healthy fats and minimize saturated fats to 5-10% of daily fat intake. Also after your carb up you need to make sure to up the fat to 75% again, and lower protein, because otherwise your body will take a while to get back into ketosis, or you may not reach ketosis at all. The reason is if you have too much protein and not enough fat to use as fool your body will convert protein to carbs for energy.

The CKD I'm runnin' now seems to hit about 60-70% fat and the rest protein.
I have in the past run one successfully at about 55%-60% fat, rest protein.
Some can't do that though.

Tuna salad with baby spinach instead of lettuce will get you a little fiber and if you have to add some Ranch to up the calories that's fine.
Udo's choice oil would be better for you, but ya gotta do what you can. If you don't do that, get some fiber pills or something to "keep things moving". :)
