How do you prevent stretch marks?

Any proven remedies to prevent or help stretch marks. When I went from 115lbs to 155lbs I started to get them on the front part of my shoulder/armpit. They were the purples ones to. That sucks. I am currently 140lbs and planning on putting a lot of weight on soon and quickly. Any suggestions.

I have them on every muscle in my body. Chest, shoulders, biceps, triceps, forearms, lats, erectors, glutes, hams, quads, calves...just about everything...

I've tried every remedy I could find to prevent them...But nothing works besides not getting bigger... There is a new product called Mederma that I have heard works well for making them less apparent... But havent tried it yet though.... And they do fade in time...

I have that Vitamin E oil or taking Zinc can help. I take Zinc supplemts, but still have strech marks and I have never tried Vitamin E oil.

i have stretch marks on upper glutes, upper quads, and inner arms. on my arms its from the back of the armpits down to about 1 inch from my elbows, those parts are totally covered with purple rips. kinda disgusting sometimes..

I think stretch marks occur when your muscles grow faster than your skin, causing it to stretch, so maybe if you tweaked your training so that you didn't gain as much muscle as fast it might reduce the appearence of stretch marks, but don't take my word for it because I'm no expert, my only thought is that I'm a hard gainer and I've never seen stretch marks

My wife just gave birth, and she got some advice from two other women who have children. (One has two kids.) None of them have a single stretch mark. I will check with her and fine out exactly what they used during the pregnancy to prevent them. I will edit this post when I find out. (Might be tomorrow before I post it.)

I spoke to my wife and she said that her and the other mothers used a coconut oil based lotion applied liberally one to two times a day in the areas needed. For them, it was the breasts and all over the stomach area. The key is to apply LIBERALLY and REGULARLY.

This is to "help" prevent the stretch marks, not remove them. Once you have them, I believe you are stuck with them.

I have a friend who has given birth to gorgeous twins and found that the stretch marks went away on her legs after a couple of years with serious amounts of shea butter cream [try kiehl's or bodyshop] religiously used right after a shower before bed or in the morning [usually twice a day] Kiehl's is the GOOD stuff [costly, tho] and using it daily matters. Kiehl's is not smelly either. Shea butter is the stuff, man.

I never been a fast grower, the muscle I have now is from 10 years of training but virtually no stretch marks,

Heard good things fromt others about using vitamine E on a regular basis for problem spots, not just on the stretchmarks but especially where future marks will likely develope if no pre-emtive action is taken

Its true that vitamins help, but when the skin is exposed to high degrees of elasticity without being properly hydrated skin breaks. This means not only drinking water, but also using something to hydrate it directly.
Some people are more prone than others, but for those with trouble they should make a habit to hydrate the skin ALL the time (water, vitamins or even bodycream after shower and before sleeping... at least before workout).

i have read that Retin-A an acne medication is supposed to dimish stretch marks, not sure if it's OTC or has to be prescribed.

i like the stretch marks on my chest and arms hehe

if you use Retin-A be sure to use it at night time because sun can cause spots in your skins which are hard to take away.

It's all been pretty much said before...but I use; Cocoa butter (cocunut based lotion - says on the back its used for pregnant women and to prevent stretch marks), Vitamin E supps, and staying well hydrated.

The most important part, that I had trouble doing, is remembering everything on a consistent basis.

Emu oil is another EXCELLENT way to greatly reduce any type of scars.

So if someone where to apply vitamin E lotions and keeping the skin well hydrated and moisturized before the growth actually begins, would that help prevent stretch marks? Just wondering because I'm doing mostly fat loss for now but I heard that can cause stretch marks as well.
