How do you know when something is infected?

How do you know if something is infected? I lost a toenail over a year ago and it's been growing in slowly - but a few days ago it started to hurt a little so I slapped a band aid on it, took some pain meds and ignored it. This morning I went to take a shower and the toe was all gunked up with blood and really stunk. It doesn't hurt, nor is it hot to the touch - but there's some smelly ooze leaking out of the side of it. I did drop a plate on it a few days ago - right after it started hurting.

So should I wake up Kneepads and have him look at it? [I would have before now but he's extremely sick with some flu thing that's going around] or should I just go to Urgent Care? I hate doctors - in fact I usually have panic attacks if I need to see one.

Any advice?

It's called pus, and if it smells it bad this verifies it. Your gonna have to see a Doc on htis one, blood poisaning is not fun, neither is gang green.

YES! Wake up the nintendo wiz and clean that puppy. It's infected.

Damn. Nasty toe. Gross. I was disgusting reading this. Shit, watch where you drop those plates.

Yes, it sounds infected, you should see a doctor. If not, then start literally soaking it in alcohol and Neosporin.

Or when Satanic Goatslayer comes on here, you can follow his instructions and cut it off with a paring knife.

I take it your man's not into toe sucking lately...
No wonder....
Epson Salts in warm water AFTER you see the Doc for some AntiBiotics

what colour is the ooze?

youve probably gots ur man checking it now anyhow

dont leave it any longer though.

Get it checked, could be a fungus. Sometimes the nail has to be removed surgically, then allowed to grow back!!!

Just watch it for let's say a month. If it falls off then it was probably infected. If it doesn't then it was just slightly irritated.

The toe is soooooooooooooooooooooo infected.

see a doctor very soon. You don't want septicemia or cellulitis developing from it. Keep it clean and covered until you see the Dr.

I hope your not diabetic.

Good luck

It's a good thing I ate several hours ago or my monitor would be covered in an organic screen saver that actually drips all over your desk.

Wait until it scabs over, peel, add milk...

voila! Breakfast cereal

(cornflakes):fro:

Seriously, you dumb f*ck. Diabetics' feet stop hurting, too....
right before they fall off.

The toe needs to be drained, soaked, and topical
and systemic (oral) antibiotics applied. Get off the computer
and go to urgent care now!!!
