How do you deal with Shoulder problems?

HS Lifter*

New member
Im a 16 year old male and have been working out for about 2 years now.

Over that time I have developed occasional pains in my left shoulder.

These pains are on and off, but have really started to bug me lately.

I try to strech and warmup my shoulders as much as possible but its not cutting it.

So my question to you guys(and girls) is what can I do do ease the pain?

Any stretches I should do in particular?

How do you deal with it?

I used to get a sharp, deep pain in my left shoulder while doing benches. It would start to hurt on maybe the 3rd or 4th set and subside about 15 - 20 minutes after my workout.
I took 3 weeks off, and then started doing an extra warmup set before my working sets. Also, I'll grab a 5 pound plate or dumbell and hold it at arm's length and slowly swing it around for a few minutes. It really helps to loosen up the entire shoulder.
My shoulder hasn't hurt since I started doing this.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Krazy, I will take your advice.

Also I have noticed that my shoulder cracks and pops non stop, when flailing my arms around to warm my shoulders up.

maybe you should get it checked out? Mine never made the popping sounds, but if it did, I would want to get it checked out just to prevent future problems in case it's something serious.

Yeah I would my I dont like the "Doctor" experience all together.

From waiting in long ass lines.

To the Doc saying "You should stop lifting"

I've been dealing with shoulder pain for 9 years. Sometimes I might go a year without problems and then it will suddenly start again. I usuallt take about 800 mg of ibuprofen when it starts hurting. Try using an ice pack after you work shoulder or do bench presses. Both of my shoulders make popping sounds but the only thing a Doctor can say is stop lifting. I have cut out incline presses which hurt like hell. If there is an exercise that bothers your shoulder worse than others, find a replacement exercise. Good luck.

my cousin had a seious shoulder injury and he started swimming and after a couple of months the pain was gone and he had total movement of his arm/shoulder

Hey, HS, whats up bud. alright heres my $0.02. i had dislocated my shoulder a little over a year ago so i know about shoulder pain. if i were you id lay off the doing regular workouts for about a couple of weeks and do some ROTATOR CUFF exercises, especially external rotators, they really help ALOT!!! these exercises strengthens the inner workings on the shoulder. id do these exercises 2 to 3 times a week.

and dont forget to stretch after each session. alright good luck!!!

Actually xxx

Today was the first day in the gym after a 3 month layoff.

Please tell me more about rotator cuff exercises:

how do you do them?

Im also gonna take up swimming, hopefully that will help.

I have had shoulder surgery on both of my shoulders and I'm only 24 years old. My advice is that if it hurts, don't do it. Glucosamine chondroitin can help. Dumbbells are easier on your shoulder than barbells. Warming up well can make a big difference as well. Good luck and take care.
