How do you burn .avi to dvd movies?

I have some .avi files on my computer and I have a dvd burner drive. I'm gonna go buy some dvd R blank disks now. I was wondering if i need to download a program or something.

Or if i can just drag the file to the dvd, and then pop the dvd in my player.

DVDFlick would probably be the easiest to use. It's also free. It will automatically shrink avi's to fit your disc, however, if a movie is fairly long you'll want to pick up some DVD-DL discs or record it on two DVD R discs. You can technically put a longer movie on a DVD R disc but the compression of the avi file will make it look grainy. Good luck!
