i was driving home from work (where things are very not so good for me right now) and wondering... why??? why do i have to work? why not a free ride for me?

i was wondering what it must have been like before we had all these toys... cars, tv's, fancy houses... etc..

i was wondering what it was like to live in ancient greece, where people had a place in society and yes, they "earned" a different "amount" depending on their place in the society but it wasnt work work work.. america now has more uptight, intense, money hungry folk than any other country at any other time... it's quite sad honestly... we dont spend enough time with our children... we work work work and then drop of a heart attack...

i have a job that should be very fun... but i dont make a lot and the management is sort of fucked up right now... and no change is in the future... i've gotten the short end of the stick on this one... in fact, the organization wants to move me but why should it be me that leaves???? i've been pegged as someone they want to keep.. someone they want to move up... but i want to stay where i am (building).... i HATE my bosses right now.. good post, but you are wrong about work. The average american works about 2,000 hours a year. Most people in other first world countries only work about 1800 hours a year. In germany (where norman bates is at) the average workyear is 1400 hours.

Back in ancient greece it was probably closer to 5000 hours a year. And you had virtually nothing to show for it.

yup. On a money per effort scale, we have it pretty good. In russia, people work in factories for 60 hours a week for $10 a month. Anyone with a college education can make $20 an hour.

Well, let see...I have a BSc and an MEng and now I'm going
for a Dphil(Doctor of philosphy. Whatever that means. Its just
for graduate Nuclear Eng. School)

So, its "name" BSc, MEng, Dphil....LOL

God, I can't wait to finish school and get out in the real world.

I read an article yesterday that said the number one thing that children said they wanted for Christmas was to have more time with their parents. Also a recently retired CEO was giving a speech to employees. He was telling them how to get his job and said that his daughter had just got married and he didn't know that much about her because he was always busy. He said that if he could do it over again, if it meant having more time with his children, then you could have his job.

I did a sandwich BEng+MEng 5-year Aerospace Engineering
course.
Also, managed to get a BSc in Bio-Chem on my own time.
(Through the long-distance thing). This one from Spain.

Did all that from 19-24

Also did some foundation year courses in Oxford(That was fun).
when I was 18 after graduating HS in Canada.

Now, its Nuclear Eng. School for 4 years and finished.

NASA here I come....LOL
