How deep do you squat?

We box squat frequently in our gym and completely off-load our legs before pressing back up. On the 13" box days, it really sucks being 6'3".

my squat is a deep as my squatting-jeans would allow it.

Those Jordache sure are tight yo! I usually get the question: "So, those calf-raises working yet?"... Bitch, this ain't calf-raises, these are 17.5° squats you fool!

that sucks bro! But im not convinced deep squatting alone causes those problems. Im more in the school of thought that deep squatting is healthier on the knees than stopping midway.

props on 505 though man. i cant even get half that hehe.

i don't think squatting had much to do with it actually. . .i think it's a combination of bad genes (my mom has two new knees as do several of the older folks in my family), football, skate boarding, mogul-bashing, motocross, rugby and sqautting too much, too deep. . .i'm currently rehabbing with an electrical stimulation device and i'm back to 225 but only to 90 degrees. . .i'll never go past that again. . .

Those don't look good for the knees.

hm? when you go below paralell the strain moves from you knees to your hip and glutes. I belive its actually better to go deep than to stop midway.

I'm no expert so i'm not saying you're wrong, but i'm also not sure that i agree with you.

I recently saw a doctor that deals with exercise-related injuries (pretty good doctor...deals with international sports teams) and he seemed to think that a lot of bodybuilders/personal trainers were wrong when they said that going lower is better for the knees. I can see his point as even though you're forcing your glutes/hips etc to do more work, the knee joints are still the ones that allow the movement. By going that extra distance it's possible that there is even more strain on the knees and that there's an unnatural load on them to an unnatural degree. Also going that low, if you're using heavy weight then it's probably also more likely that your knees will twist so obviously you have to be even more careful with your form. I know the hardcore bodybuilders won't like this theory but as a sportsman i'd avoid it personally as the increased injury risk (in my opinion) isn't worth it.
