How can I get abs?

GoldenWind

New member
Hi,

I'm trying to get abs, but nothing's working so far...

Age: 16
Gender: Male
Body Fat %: 5.6% (Yeah yeah, I know it's too low, lol)
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 122lbs

I'd like to know:
1) What exercises (and/or diet if nessicary :() I need to go on.
2) Assuming I follow the provided exercises and/or diet, the amount of time it will take to get results.

Thank you =)

hmm your at 5.6% bf and you dont have abs?...dude...do some crunchers or something....better yet get yourself a decline bench and do needsizes ab workout..

@ 5.6% anyone would have abs.

what is your definition of "having abs"?
where did you get your bodyfat figure?

Yeah, nice forum here... people seem to care more about my stats than answering the topic.

My definition of "having abs" is basically a 6-pack.

First off..... don't come on here with an additude !!! your a newbie that is a 16 year old 122lb wet noodle wanting abs !!!

Second..... you are not 5.6% BF !!! you would have abs if you were !!!

third..... I would not worry about getting abs because I assume in real life when you turn sideways people think you have vanished !!! at 122lbs and 16 years old my advice to you is eat everything in sight and stick to a basic weight routine in the gym !!! Everybody hates skinny guys who think they are big because they have little ass abs and keep looking at them in the gym mirror !!! I feel like clobbering them in the head with a 50lb dumbbell !!!

that is all i have to say for now !!!

Bad way to start out here at EF.......

your red karma doesn't work, bro.

anyway, i tried to give you some advice, at least in your red karma return... i say it again, read the stickies and drop your attitude

You need to come here with a better attitude if you want feedback. Whats the purpose in getting visible abs when your already light? Id focus more on gaining some muscle and bulking up the abs as well. If you were at 5% something would be showing. Not sure what your goals are, but good luck

Don't waste time or money on a book for abs. It's not worth any amount of money to learn how to develop a muscle, or lose some weight. Ever. Unless it's your life. Otherwise, everything you need is right here.

Don't try to red karma any of us man. That's just not cool. We're trying to help you out.

We are answering your question. We're also giving our own input, which is what message boards such as these are for. Don't be a jackass.

Okay bors... our buddy here came in with seems to be a legit question. From what it sounds like, he's new to lifting.

I know as this board goes it kind of seems like a ridiculous question, but you gotta take it in context.

Goldenwind -- you need to relax a bit. People ask for stats so they can get an idea of your physique and level of advancement. It's a question intended to help them better answer your question.

Here's my advice: Something seems off. 5.6% body fat is real low, low enough where you should see separation in almost all muscle groups.

Your bodyfat measurement is probably wrong.

If abs are you goal, I'd advocate dieting more. From your weight it sounds like you're new to bodybuilding; you may want to find a basic routine and bulk up to a more reasonable weight before worrying about abs.

You want abs? Then start using resistance in your ab routine. Abs respond very well when adding resistance. Do decline situps with some added weight superset with hanging leg lifts without added weight. Come back and post your results in a month or so.

That's called a bioimpedance device, it estimates fat by running a current through your body and using known resistances of different cell types to guess at your fat composition.

They're notoriously inaccurate... you're probably not at 5-6%. That's almost shredded.

i caliper at 7.5%, machine at 15.5%

i'm too fat for 7.5, too thin for 15.5. guesstimate man.

i know i'm in the vacinity of 9-10%

I believe that everything have been said here.
You have to know that you are a very lucky young guy. Many of us whish we had all the information you are going to receive when we were your age.
Now, something you probably have to learn is that you don’t tease the girl you want to date. You know, people are always nicer to you when you are nice to them.

BF is not a figure you have to worry about now. Body weight is something to keep track !

My advice, try to eat as much as you can, meanwhile, read about diets and food, eventually you will end with a very efficient diet for you.
Stick to a basic routine in the gym and start slowly raising the weights for a couple of month, meanwhile, like said before, read about different types of routines. When you think you are ready to make a change, you can post your new routine here and ask for advice.
Keep track of your progress, size, weight, pictures, is very motivating and it will help you to determine what is working better for you. If you keep track of your diet, daily or weekly along with the other stuff, then you will have a very powerful tool to refer to when making changes in the future.
Try not to see the numbers in the dumbbells, it is my opinion that, in this stage, you will get better results if you perform the exercises precisely and accurate. If you see a big guy next to you that is lifting ten times what you are, don’t feel bad, probably he was a little boy at your age.
Try to do some research before placing a question (I apologise for not doing that at the beginning). You will get feedback.
If you find something interesting while surfing the net, like the anabolic effect of stacking a worm in your ear, post the link, probably it will be useful for someone.

Ah, and don't forget to start saving for the Platinum Membership !! :p

Sleep hard, eat hard, train fair. You will get results before you start thinking of them.

Good luck and welcome to the board bro. :)

Does body fat percentage really change anything?
If it does, how can I accurately calculate it?[/QUOTE

Yeah, body fat % does change things. It's apparently whats determining whether you're seeing your abs or not. As for determing it, im not quite sure. I just looked up bf% calculators through google and put in a bunch of measurements, (waist,neck,abdominal,weight,height.....) not sure how accurate this method is though....if anyone else knows a good way reply cuz i liked to hear some more input on this.

As far as your abs go man all i can say is first worry about bulking up. Having a six pack means nothing if everything else around it looks like shit. :chomp:

good luck man
