How Bad Is Milk For You?

BobbyBIGGS

New member
I am not saying in anyway that milk is bad for you, but have been seeing on other boards that the sugar in milk is bad. Also that you should stay away from it as it can pack on bodyfat if too much is consumed. I drink at least a litre or two a day with my protein shakes and wondering if this could play a role losing some unwanted poundage. I was just wondering other peoples experiences with milk and if i cut it out and used water for my shakes would this help in aiding me with fat loss.

BobbyBIGGS

I cut milk out of my protien shakes a couple of years ago. I some size around my waist, about half an inch. I also found that the shakes tasted better.

Yeah! Milk will make you fat. However i hate mixing my shakes in water.
What i do is grab some skim milk, mix some powdered milk in with it, add my protein and a packet of equal Volia!

RADAR

When I dropped Milk from my diet my skin condition improved, and my bodyfat percentage went down.
I now use Soya Milk exclusively.

Yep...all milk.
I read up on the stuff and its not pretty. A lot of mucus and bad crap in milk. Most of it coming down from the stuff they give to cows to make them good milking machines.

Drop it for a while and see what happens. You may be surprised!

Along with the sugar, the general bloat I would get was another factor in dropping the milk completely for lean ol' water. I haven't had milk in my diet consistently in 2-3 years.

True.

Genetics play a huge role in diet. Milk is certainly not for everyone despite what the FDA tell you and its RDA. Protein, calcium and other amino acids can be naturally found from a variety type of food.
I am not only lactose intolerant, but the occasional ice creams (whole milk) give me a clear increased in mucous production and digestive problems such as bloatedness and constipation.

The last glass of milk I had was about 4-5 years ago. I simply mix my protein shake in water and I am 100% satisfied with the bland, tasteless taste.

Come on, guys, it's milk...

It's like asking "uhhh, will cake make you fat?" and responding with "you are unable to digest the fats and carbohydrates, and there are not enough enzymes in the chocolate mousse, etc."

The answer is simpler: just look at the F'ing nutritional information  . There are about 10-12 grams of sugar and 3-7 grams of fat in each cup of milk. If you chug 45 gallons a day of the stuff, you'll be consuming lots of sugar and fat. Of course you'll gain some weight, and it'll be bad for you. It's not because of the mucus, or blood, or this or that, etc.

Some people have sworn it causes acne, or bloating...whatever, it's genetics for some people. But with most people, a few glasses a day provides a good source of protein, calcium, and fats.

lactose intolerance is not a food allergy , I'm note sure where that comes from. lactase enzyme will break lactose down, then anyone can drink it.

I will agree that animals fed with chemicals is an issue. The same hold true for beef sold in stores. Most of you prolly don't spend the extra 3-5 dollars a pound on natural grain fed beef either.

I do...totally Organic for me bro. Get informed on what you putting inside you and you will be astonished.
Better still, drop the milk and see what happens to your body composition.

HMM?

Am I the only milk lover here?

I love milk. I average a half a gallon a day without breaking a sweat. I have milk with every meal and with all my protein shakes. The only time I would cut milk out is if I was trying to get ripped or was concerned with my bodyfat%. Sure my bodyfat% is nothing to brag about, but then again I never have trouble getting stronger or bigger haha.

You can buy organic milk. Most of the vegetables and fruits in the stores have almost no nutritional value having been grown in nutrient depleted and abused soil and having been picked early generally and stored and shipped and sprayed with who knows what. But, the flip side is you can buy organic veggies and fruit.

Milk being bad for me is the least of my worries and I would be pissed if I didn't have milk every day. I would drink it raw from the cow if I had the opportunity becasue it's far more nutrient packed and good for you that way.

Some people do not digest milk very well, true, but some people digest it VERY well, like me. I've drank as much as 1.5 gallons a day for a good 6 months or longer with no trouble whatsoever. No farting, no diarrhea, no nothing and I've averaged a minimum of half a gallon a day since I was around 13, and at least a quart a day before then.

So stop bashing milk. :freak:

I've been drinking a gallon and a half of skim milk per week and have actually gotten leaner. Of course I have been working out like an animal. I have whole food post workout and in th epost workout meal I have a huge glass of milk among other things. As long as you aren't sipping milk watching tv while moss grows on your back I think it is perfectly alright to have :)

I have lactose intolerance, so milk is bad for me and for those around me when ever I drink it...........farts are the smelliest.........you can loose a friend for sure, not counting dates and coworkers..............besides the cramps and the diarrea...LOL

I think that lactose intolerance affects 70% of the worlds population. Dairy is used mostly in eurocentric cultures.

^^ agreed I live off milk and water

quick story:
I'm from a big family all my cousins are huge, 6'4" and up and built (I'm 6'6") we must've drank thousands of gallons of milk growing up, no soda, no water, just milk. Except for my cousin tim, he wouldn't touch it, not even for cereal. Today he's only about 5'10" and 150lbs (we joke that there was a mix-up at the hospital). Could be coincidence but I think drinking milk with all that igf and hgh they give the cows might have had an effect.

After reading all the posts, what do I say? I love milk, as well. If you're worried about your bf%, then it's probably best to cut down the milk consumption a bit, especially if you're drinking whole milk. 1% has less fat and more protein than whole milk (and tastes like s*#t). The lactose can add extra lbs, if you're not careful. I use 1% twice a day in protein shakes.

I can't believe that people can have bad things to say about milk. If you want to bulk then buy the full-fat Jersey cream if you're trying to cut then buy the zero-fat stuff. I drink at least a litre a day. If you are generally restricting calories then maybe you'd prefer some slower-acting carbs but otherwise ...

Of course, if it gives you the raging squits then you'll have to miss out on this glorious food. I rate milk second only to eggs.

Check out Labrada's site. They have a big write up on the evils of milk. It is loaded with Bovine IGF-1, which does many things that bodybuilders want, but also makes tumors grow, etc. I still drink it, but it gave me the "Just toured a sausage making plant" feeling, anyway.

If you drink a liter (about 1/4 gallon) of milk a day , you are drinking quite alot of sugar. No concerns for insulin resistance? Lactose may be low gi but has a high insulin response.

I can't agree that the sugar in that amount of milk qualifies as quite a lot of sugar. A cup of milk will have about 10g of lactose which I would dismiss as almost negligable. A litre will thus have, maybe, around 50g. Maybe not negligable over the course of a day but certainly not greater than irrelevant unless I'm otherwise overdoing sugars.

Beside the great taste and colour, milk is also rich in calcium, riboflavin and vitamins A, D, B12 and a source of tryptophan which is a key amino acid for promoting sleep and protein synthesis. Conveniently, it also packs a decent amount of protein.

I totally agree and if you dont want to get fat then cut the fatty foods out man some of you guys must be really F***kin dense it stands to reason if you eat fat youl get fat anyway muscle needs fat to build so do some more research you planks...

God some of you guys must be planks i mean c`mon you need body fat to build muscle and if you dont want to be fat dont eat fatty foods i mean c`mon think you need to do some more research bros

GET REAL...

Sorry but milk is crap. As humans, we cannot properly digest the nutrients that are in milk as it is made for cows, by cows. Why do you think that colostrum, the initial milk that a mother lactates is so bad ass for babies? It is made for them that is why. Read up on milk it may change your mind. However don't tell the dairy farmers, they may come after me. To me the only thing a cow is good for is a bar-b-que.

8th Continent Light SoyMilk
8oz.= 50 cals,2 g carbs, 1.5 g fat, 7 g protein

CarbCountdown Fat Free Milk
8 oz.= 70 cals, 3 g. carbs, 0 g fat, 12 g protein

These are what I usually drink in my protein shakes, but other than that straight water all day everyday.

Is powdered milk just as good as regular milk, I know the nutrition is the same but I'm talking about the taste?

Testoman: you need to chill out mate. Don't go calling people planks for their point of view.

i saw earlier in this thread saying something about how milk causes acne..blah.blah.
i just started changing my shake at night to having ice cream and milk with protein and ANP befcause i liek those ice cream milkshakes. started doing this like last friday. since then i have been breaking out and been a bit more bloated. conincidence? or is it true?

Well Arnold was probably bigger and better than most of the guys ever will be posting on here so WTF is wrong with Y`all I mean c mon milk is great stuff if you get the zero fat stuff it is still packed with all the vitamins ect I dont see any problem with drinkink 3-4 pints a day and if you put weight on as I have in the past with milk just cut it down to a pint a day because you definately need at least that while trying to build.

I dont see why this thread has gone on for so long I mean c mon MILK drink it dont drink it I dont really give a crap what you do but for me I will keep on having my milk everyday never done anybody any harm...

u guys need to get a life, all this talk about milk is from cows for cows, its a F*cking class of milk, if u want to know facts i was at a body-building comp, and i was aloud backstage( because my uncle had something to do with it ) and i went backstage, and my jaw dropped when i saw these to mazive beasts eating pizza and ice cream !!!!!! he laughed and said this is what muscles r made of !!!! i think u need take a look at urselfs if ur callorie counting and researching this much into foods stuff, I have a high protien diet, and i still go out all the time 2 clubs and drink loads of beer ect, which has never done me any damage. but im not saying eating lots of shit is good for u , but just chill out dudes !!! live a little ok , eating a piece of cake is not going to make u fat, or make u lazy!

na these guys didnt stop eating to be honest! i went after the posed, they said they starved themselfs like for a few days to get as cut as they could, but like 30mins after the comp they were back to bulking up, with pizza and ice-cream !! i was shocked, and eating alot of it 2,1 guy told me never get to carryed away with it, cause u can fuck it up by keeping to the same eating plan every day, every week.then i told him tht i dropped my fav food( cheese burgers) because i was wanting to be cut, he laughed at told me 2 wake up, on his getting cut plan he has at least 2 cheese burgers a week ! so when i here u guys on about MILK , i want to slap u , if u like it drink it !!! :RADAR

TINY: Its all relative mate. If those guys where eating ice cream its because they where either retarded or could get away with it. No way can you get away with that if you're pre-disposed to getting fat.
Anyone who likes milk, then drink up: but give it a go to see what we're talking about! It does make a difference to your well-being and physique!

Milk Does a Body Good!

Recent university studies at a canadian university (mcmaster university) show that drinking milk after a workout is just as good as, if you cant afford over-priced protein powders, taking a protein shake.

is there a web page tht u can prove tht ?

I doubt it can be proved, but as even as a hater of milk, I'm inclined to agree. Protein shakes are way over-rated IMO. But I still prefer them to Milk due to their higher protein and lower carb content.

Uh, MacMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario? Where any farmers kid goes if they don't go to Guelph University? JK - I'm sure it was a controled, double blind experiment ;-)

Got milk?

Overpriced protein shakes? Uhh....25 bucks for a six pound tub of powder that will last you for at least a month or two isn't really overpriced.

People just need to get skim milk. It has NO FAT GUYS!!!!

I've been drinking skim or semi-skim for so long that the normal stuff tastes wrong. Even the semi-skim tastes creamy. At least it keeps my wife away from my milk and vice versa.

When I'm having an all-milk coffee, though, the more fat the better. I used to live near a shop which had Jersey which was double-fat milk. Delicious.

Carefull with soy.....lots of estrogen.

I drink around 3 gallons a week. 1 Gallon of whole and 2 of skim. It doesn't make ME fat. Infact for me it has the PERFECT Carb to Protein Ratio 60% to 40%. I heard a report yesterday on NPR that dairy actually aids in weight loss. It had something to do with Calcium and the other nutrients it carries.....and no you can't take Ca supps. and expect to loose fat.

Yep, only humans and pretty much any animal you care to offer the stuff to.

I think that we consume milk is more an attribute of social and technological progression (or regression if you think it's bad) than natural evolution.

I don't know about you, but my cat loves cows milk...

Most of the time milk gets a bad rap from all the lactards out there. In all, its been proven to be one of the best muscle builders of our time. It's economical and is low in the glycemic index (its sugar wont make you fat!). What more do you want?

It made us grow as babies why wouldn't it do the same now?

Enjoying a glass of 1%,

That's the point we no longer need it ... we're not babies.

Sure your cat or your dog will drink cow's milk if you pour it in a bowl ... they'll also drink coke and beer ... doesn't mean it's good for you.

"That's the point we no longer need it ... we're not babies."

Seems like you completely missed the point of that statement. You also took vitamins as a baby, didnt you? Well your big now so maybe you should stop taking them...

"Sure your cat or your dog will drink cow's milk if you pour it in a bowl ... they'll also drink coke and beer ... doesn't mean it's good for you."

I'm negating the claim that "we're the only animal to drink another species milk." I personally don't care if my cat drinks coke or beer... kind of irrelavent. Interested to see a response how milk isn't good for me.

But even if we are one of the few (not only) species to consume anothers milk, why not acknowledge the fact that we're the only species to, lets say, cook our own food, mass produce... etc. A lot of things we as humans do is unnatural, AAS is one of them.

One important thing to remember when reviewing the scientific literature is that the study of dairy science is literally big business. Not just in regard to the milk itself but the levels of price support, other subsidies, etc. People with academic credentials have gone to extremes on either side of this issue you wouldn't believe unless you realize who exactly is paying for the study. I think what we can agree on is that like all foods people react to it in different ways. What are important issues for some just aren't for others. Complicating this is a certain amount of genetic manipulation as well as the toxicity of our modern lifestyle. As someone mentioned, almond milk is the closest substitute for those that can't. Not all estrogen in soy milk is bio-absorbed. Here, again, you'll encounter a wide range - for most there is only a minor amount of estrogen bound- for some there's no problem at all, and for some it can be quite a serious problem.

Humans are the only creatures that consume milk after infancy.

Bullshit, my cat sucks tittymilk off the dog just about everyday, and he's about 3 1/2 years old

If i drink milk at all, it is 100% fat free..

I drink crazy amounts of water, and only take Creatine with Diet stuff
And drink protein shakes with purified water.

lactose intolerant. its poison.
unless i go for the filtered stuff thats reduced the lactose and increased the calcium/protein...

other than that. POISON

Its very much a personal thing. When I have my clients drop milk from their diet, they lose weight...however some don't.
Personally...don't touch it.

Geez....I've drinking milk (skim that is) since I was born i think!!!! LOL
My dentist says I have the strongest jaw bone and teeth he's ever seen, and he thinks is because of the calcium in the milk I drink......Dang, too bad it doesnt work the same for muscle!!!

Milk Sucks! (slight pun instended). Really, I think it has been 3 years since I stopped drinking milk and just replacing it with water. I never get any skin ailments anymore since doing that. And at least for me, it caused bloat and also I thought it hindered endurance in high-intensity activities.

I also strongly believe unless you are drinking the organic stuff, it has to have loads of carcinogens from the crap they put into cows to make them into milk-juicing machines.
