I know what the laws are. However, you are making a blanket statement that isn't 100% true.

How about this, from a newbie. If you choose to get a single package sent to your home, write on the package, "Not at this address". And, "Return to sender". (Assuming you used a fake name). Hold on to the package for a week before opening.

Thoughts: You can let the package sit OUTSIDE your house somewhere (NOT in the mailbox of course as it will get taken by the USPS carrier) but like outside your garage or something. Let it sit for DAYS (weeks if you're really worrried with the words "refused package/not accepting/unknown sender/whatever). Controlled Deliveries HAVE to take place with packages actually entering your house. This controls this aspect.

Again, not completely true.

USPS Inspectors CAN open a first class package with the verbal consent of either the shipper or the addressee.

Also, they can obtain a warrant for the opening of a package.

Posession is 9/10ths of the law. If it's in your posession, it's yours.

MR X u are incorrect like i said legalmuscle by rick collins explains these issues perfectly, usps is the safest fed ex and ups are their own entities and dont have to abide by the same laws period read the book bro i realize that it might not sound right but they arent simply "opening ur mail" they are saying they have reason to believe something is not "right" with the mail that could be a tip etc, do u think if the feds contact fed ex or ups and tell them they are suspicious of something, they wont do anything to please the authorities? thay will open it at that point

Has this happened- does anyone know of anytime that somebody had domestic package sent USPS to a MBE and had it siezed? I have heard several problems on this board with customs, but I have not heard someone specifically targeted because of somethin 'not right' with the package.

An address can be flagged by USPS, regardless if it's your home addy or a PMB.

When you go to open a PMB (UPS Store, MBE, PakMail, et all) you have to fill out a form "PS-1583" and present normally two (2) forms of ID. Link to PS 1583

The bottom line is nothing is 100% safe. There are ways to minimize your risk, but you're always taking a chance.

think of it this way, let's say you're getting a package from Int., you check the tracking and it's in customs for 10 days, well you know something is up:

scenario 1) it's going to an MBE, you just don't go pick it up and forget it - take a loss
scenario 2) it's going to your house; nothing you can do about that - just hope it's not a CD

you just have to play it safe and keep things away from where you live, why be stupid about it.
