Even if they successfully DOS the server into coma, they will still not be able to recover your password which undoubtedly is encrypted in the DB. It would be easier to unlock your account and change your location to "gw bush's ass" than it would be to get your PW...
I am starting to think sql injection would be able to fufu things up around here pretty good, too. karma slamming would seem to indicate some weaknesses, i think....
anyway, i will shut up now so that you can make fun of me for even attempting to exercise acumen...

This probably isn't going to be the answer you are looking for but you need help man, and I am not talking about help getting her password.
You have a woman so frightened of you that she went to the legal system for protection. And judging by you proposed solutions to this problem, she may have a reason. Break into her place? Are you kidding me. Go talk to a counselor or get some anger managment or something.

But since most everyone here has the computer accumen of a brick, I'm restly assured my weak password is safe.

I'm 99.9% sure that the passwords here are one way MD5 hashes.
you put your password into the field here and it gets sent via the ssl connection to the server where it is run through the one way hash, and is then compared to the hash stored in the DB.
you can't break it, but you could brute force it. you could run every single word in a dictionary through the same hash and then compare that hash to the one you see for Code's. you would then have to add in numbers and letters and just start using randomization and substitution to get the non-standard passwords (I usually use bad math for my passwords -> "14*6=128")
and even then - while you might technically get a match on the hash, which would let you into the system - you still might not have found the actual password.
As Code has pointed out before, with MD5, there is actually a pretty frequent overlap of hashes in that algorithm - but not frequent enough to worry about it for a site like this.
frequent enough that if I had some crazy secret info that I would want to worry.
and Code, I put up a challange (challenge? I can't spell) earlier of my car to anyone that can get my elite password.
my car is worth way more than your $500 - but your contest has been running longer, so perhaps the glory is worth more on that one.
in terms of all the people that think they are amazing hackers on here, I fart in your general direction.
my friends and I used to hack into all kinds of the school servers way back in the day - but could you still call it hacking? back in the day stuff was that much more open - over time things get closed up as they are exposed.
I have about 15 cds full of random crap that I used to download off of servers around the world. I'd sit there in my room, "hack" a server, and then download all the crap I could from it and then just sift through it wondering what the fuck that server was used for.
the best thing I ever got, and the things I'm most proud of are a CD full of images from a board meeting at some company in India. The pictures are from a vantage point at the end of this long table and all of these indian guys are looking down the table at the camera - none of them smiling, but it is obviously a posed series of pics.
also, they are HUGE - massive resolution.
I used a few of them as desktops over the course of my college time.
it is a very nice thing to come home, log in to your computer and have a bunch of Indian businessmen looking down a table at you.

Ahh, a collision in MD5 happens once in 200 million. Meaning if you hashed the same two words it would take roughly 200 million times to get the same cypher text.
Thats one reason why Ron Rivest invented it, to replace MD3 which had a collion once every 1 milion or so hashes.
Brute forcing a hash isn't all that feasible from the end-user perspective. Now if that end-user happened to have a beowulf cluster or possibly a couple E10k's clustered, he'd stand a chance at getting a collision in his lifetime.
Remember, encryption isn't about making data safe, its about buying the data a block of time during which it is safe.
Meaning using DES gives the data roughly 4-8 hours of safety. 3DES gets you roughly a week, rijndael buys you about a year, same with blowfish blah blah blah blah.
Since MD5 cannot be used as encryption, since there literally is no way to "unhash" it. I mean there are ways to use non-linear attacks or even sophisticated linear attacks...but there is no mathematical way to unhash them.
