Hook grip input needed

Need some input from you Oly and hook grip users. I am trying to switch my grip to using the hook but having some trouble. I am placing the index and middle finger over the thumb but the grip does not feel secure. It actually feels and is the same strength for me as the double overhand. Is this how it starts and gets better or is something wrong.

Incidentally info that may help---my thumb does not hurt like others say it will, when I do double overhand it is the same as hook except my thumb covers the index and middle, I loose the grip around 400lbs and then have to go back to over and under after that, also my fingers hit about where the nail is and does not completely lap over the thumb (? hands to small maybe).

Any suggestions and help appreciated.

I'm curious as to how people answer your questionl. I have tried a locked grips as you have mentioned, and have had the same concerns about security of this type of grip.
 
For one if you can Clean/Jerk 400+ pounds that is just sick. I don;t think you need to train Deads this way.

It is hard to get used to, but if a big Clean/Jerk is the goal I would start now. Personally it is very hard for me, but I have been woring on it for several weeks and it is getting better.
 
I am using it for deads right now but do have interest in oly lifts also, which is why I want to start using it.
