FINALLY got home!! They weren't going to let me leave!! Jeez!! They wanted me there until 6-8pm for some reason....I finally told them - Look I want to leave.....oh and they wouldn't let me eat...how am I supposed to take my meds with no food in my stomach??

Got there at 5:30am - sat around for a very short bit, then they prepped me pretty quickly (BP, temp, etc) took me up around 6:45am, hooked up my IV, asked me the same ? they had asked me 3x downstairs & gave me my Jaeger bomb via IV... :lmao: OH and I got a Femoral nerve block in my right leg....right next to the femoral artery I now have a nice puncture wound & bruising....

Got wheeled into the OR, Dr. Axe walked in & asked how I was - I said more importantly "How are YOU??" Then *all of a sudden* I was OUT.....Woke up in recovery shivering with supreme cotton mouth, hung out there, got into my room upstairs where I just hung out till I asked to leave...never saw Axe again...my throat hurts & is scratchy from the tube in my mouth while I was under - and I have tape residue ALL over me....

I'm in an immobilizer with a drain and the electric cooler thingy - ice/water pack wrapped around my leg & it plugs in to circulate the ice water.....have a drain tube coming out my knee into a balloon-collection thing, which is pretty gross...

OH and I have 5 (yes FIVE) scrips.....3 pain + 1 antibiotic + 1 anti-inflammatory....

That looks very painful and I'm glad that you got the yager bomb and not the man with the knife.

Take it easy, enjoy the drugs & get better soon!! ;)

In the mean time you can crack the whip on the rest of us newbies!!

Cute shorts! You should be off & running in no time!

Did they give you any sort of continued PT or anything going forward - or just a couple weeks off?

You're a tough girl. I saw stairs.

Stairs + surgery + drugs + crutches = :worried:

Get well, soon, girl. :)

Yeah really - got home from the hospital, sat on the steps & scooted up step by step with my good leg as a brace and used my arms.....I am now parked in my bedroom with my leg elevated on 3 pillows.....and since the 2nd floor is where the bathroom is - I'm staying here!!

That just makes my leg and knee ache looking at your leg. Movement is the key like Nelms suggested.
It's so wierd a few montsh ago you were skiing on the black diamonds and now this. It shows all of us how fortunate we should be to our health and being able to get to the gym! Your dedication to fitness and this site is awesome!
Keep it up !!!

This is the cooler thing that circulates the cold ice water - it has a pump down inside the cooler, pretty cool!

This is what the cooler looks like attached - the connection is under the immobilizer.....

Jens when to the drains come out? Sorry I really do not know much about your procedure. :rose:

Either later today or tomorrow - I have to remove it myself.....

The procedure is pretty basic really.....the ACL is a tendon that basically holds your upper leg to your lower leg - the ACL runs thru the middle of your leg.....since mine tore completely - the old one got removed & a cadaver ligament got screwed into my bone to replace the old one....

In case your curious & have nothing better to do: http://www.stoneclinic.com/aclrep.htm

Hello dear... Just wanted to wish you a very very very speedy and COMPLETE recovery. Take care of your self

*The kitty is cute... it knows mommy is hurting right now and that something's wrong thats why the kitty is by your side. Get well soon!!!! :bigkiss:

Glad to see you made it through the surgery okay.
Oh god. Its your right leg. Good luck in the bath tub. Mine is one where you enter to the left and the wall is to the right. I had to lay in it backwards so I didn't have to hold my right leg up. It was a pain in the ass!
Hopefully, you have a sponge bath lined up :)
Good luck with your recovery!!!

Sponge bath.....!!!! that was the best part for me, and my husband washing my hair!! felt so good! big plastic lawn trash bags and duct tape are great too for a nice dry leg shower.

Jen you'll be back in no time, PT will make you feel better and starting asap is good for your head. they will put your ROM brace on for you, that is better than the immobilizer. Are you getting the "blood rush" to the joint when you get up? I hope not! Another thing that REALLY helps... you body gets to feel weak and sore from laying around, your MD can prescribe Massage Therapy and it will either ( depending upon your insurance) be covered or at least 50%, such as DME. The therapist, if you have a HMO need to be a preferred provider, or on the provider list to be covered. PPO's usually cover with a co-pay. It is SO worth it! I had a LMT for both my ACl's and LMT and a PT come to my home 3 days per week when I had my transplant. Really makes a huge difference. :)

Yeah I get to shower after 72 hours.....will fashion some way to sit in the tub......

No blood rush to the leg really - but when I stand up now - the incision "pulls" - so I can feel where the incision is.....that hurts!!

Will have to ask about the massage - don't know if my insurance will cover it or not....will have to look into it.....

What's really bothering me is pain in my right butt cheek - don't know if maybe I have a pinched nerve now or not....but it's so painful I can hardly sleep.....it hurts like right in the middle of my butt cheek....

As for the drain I can pull it out today or tomorrow - and yes - just pull it out....will prolly wait until tomorrow....

perfect reason to ask for massage. Could be a nerve, could be the block, (needle insertion point). Did you get one?

Well the block was in the front and this hurts in the back.....

They have to hit the Femoral nerve for the block to be effective, which is right at the crease of your groin. They use two needles, one thin that has the electric current and another to deliver the meds. one is thin, the other is not so thin. So it makes sense for your cheek to hurt right in the middle in the back. They do the block after your surgery is done while you are coming out of sleep, so you don't feel it too much, but it continues to provide pain relief for like a day, sometimes up to 24 hrs. I had one the first time, but it didn't do much for me, so I opted out on the others. I still had bad pain behind my knee, but not in the butt. BUtt ;) I could totally see where your cheek would hurt... must be a deep aggrivating pain?

Yes, it is....hurts a lot - keeps me from being comfortable in bed and sleeping well.....BUTT (lol) it hurt before surgery - it's been bothering me since I started PT....but since surgery it's pretty bad....

....so do you just "pull" it out?!?!?!? :eek2:

So what do you have to do? I think you answered everyone but me! I'm sincerely curious!

Just pull it out - that's it.........I don't even have to take the immobilizer off so they said via the phone today......liquid draining tonite is mostly clear now....

...and it's supposed to be EASY right!!!! (I hope so). Actually, I'm SURE it will be......just think of something else when you do it! :)

I'm beginning to wonder if it's my Sciatic nerve being pinched..... :worried:

What?

I'm in a fog...sorry....

Your butt.

I am wondering if you were compensating for your injured knee, pre-surgery, and caused some nerve, tendon, and/or ligament tightness that is now causing the issue.

Do you trust your man to stretch your butt? He would have to completely brace your knee for you....

Well I'm in a full leg immobilizer.....and when I stand up - I do try to stretch it....dunno if I really want "help" in stretching just yet.... ;)

Well you could always call a massage therpay place and have them come over to your house (some places do).
They could work on your glutes and piriformis as well as the other deep lateral rotators. Also, help stretch it out.

your knee looks good for a couple days post op!

Well my husband figured out a way for me to sleep on my side with my leg elevated - so today not too bad.....managed to get downstairs to sit in the recliner for a while.....

And yeah - I thought I'd be a lot more bruised up....
