Hey i'm new, please be nice!

Hi, I recently registered on my boyfriends recommendation. My boyfriend Arkan. I'm a 19 (almost 20) yr old student, and I try to exercise on a regular basis (3 or 4 times a week). This was also from the influence of my wonderful man, who is currently bodybuilding.
I use to weigh around 88kg (196lb) 3yrs ago and have now reached a plateau at 70kg in weight, which is around 154lb, and yet I am only 5"2inches. So you can guess that I would very much like to lose more weight in FAT and gain more in MUSCLE, target weight being around 55kg. My problem is my diet and I lack self-motivation (it could be laziness). I have read a little on the Insulin Index, which I hope will help me. I would appreciate any diet plan suggestions or links, bearing in mind I crave alot of sweet and chocolatey food!
My exercises involve both weight training and cardio, both of which I don't mind doing and am good at. But as you know that is only 50% of what is required for me! I really need help!!
I also lack self-control! :mad:

glad to see you joined the board, sound like youve come a long ass way; diet is the most important part, those who fail in trying to attain their ideal physique usually happends because of poor diet; once you master this youll be smokin. knowledge is key, research. research, research:)

Welcome...some great information may be found on this board. If you need to find it, chances are you will get an answer. Many things may also be found through searches...

Hey girl! Welcome & congrats on your progress! You probably already know what patience & dedication it takes to achieve what you've already done... so just keep doing it!

Here you'll find lots of info, lots of support and lots of fun! We're right there w/ ya. I think every one of us has some sort of "horror story" about our weight to relate to... the good news is that we appreciate our successes if we remember our failures - or more appropriately termed, our learning experiences!

RW — What's the difference between the well known glycemic index (GI) and this insulin index (II) you're referring to?

JB — The popular glycemic index is a measure of the speed at which carbohydrates enter the blood after a meal. A high-glycemic index means that blood sugar rises rapidly in response to a meal while a low-glycemic index means that blood sugar rises very slowly. Traditionally, nutritionists thought that the faster the carbs got into the blood, the bigger the insulin response. So in an attempt to manage insulin, they recommended always eating low-glycemic foods.

However, several studies since have shown that some low glycemic index foods have huge insulin responses! So the correlation between glycemic index and insulin response breaks down with some foods. For example, milk products have a very low glycemic index. But they promote insulin responses parallel to the highest glycemic foods. What's the deal? Well, it appears that there are several other factors that determine insulin release besides carb content and the rate of carb absorption.

This is why the insulin index was generated. This index actually measures insulin response to a food. So rather than assuming insulin response is correlated with carb absorption, these researchers decided to go ahead and measure it. And their results were eye opening!

Hi I'm very greatfull for the feedbacks and responses from everyone. I have not not been exercising for a while because I was down with tonsilitis. I have recently come off the pennicilin, but I am being more careful of what I eat as I am feeling the after effects of the drug (not to mention the side effects)! But really I need a kick up the arse, it is very easy for me to gain the weight I had lost! I dont want that to happen, so Im gonna be strict(er)!
I have had a look at the links and suggestions. I also came across this diet scheme which is quite popular
http://www.slimming-world.com if you look on the right side and click on 'food' it gives an outline of the food optimising of the weight loss system and also an example of a 5-day menu. What do you guys think of this, is it worth doing?

Too high in carbs, especially frutose. Fructose does not do much aside from fill the liver, then is converted directly to trans-fatty acids as well as raising blood uric acid levels.

Not enough protein. Spatts should be along any minute to show you the links to her rotation, which is easily one of the better ones, IMO.
 
don't forget ... she likes chocolate ...

I like spatts "recipes" ... but I don't know whether you should go cold turkey due to the binge effect it may (or may not) have on you mentally.

I follow a pretty clean and healthy eating pattern ... but I also allow myself a break (maybe once a week) for a "pat on the back" for eating healthy. Choose your one favorite food (say chocolate... twinkie, cheesecake, snickers) and eat one portion. Eat a controlled portion & enjoy it. As a reward.

This helped my daughter a lot. She eats healthy all week but with this pattern, can allow herself to go out on Friday nights with her friends after ballgames & have Mexican or pizza without the "guilty" feeling. Once she realized she wasn't being ... bad ... and gained the understanding of a reward ... now she has gone from 25% bodyfat to a healthier 18%.

Just an idea ... and just sharing what has worked for the ladies in my family. Welcome aboard.
