Why didn't you tell me split Squats are that tough....

Shit I am sore all over and was falling all over the place during the last reps..... Talk about the burn...

Hopefully the results are worth the pain..

it was realy painful and I was only using the bar. But my teardrop is killing me. Hopefully this will improve my balance in addition to my foot speed. I've been doing a lot of poliquin excercises lately and will post up soon;)

CoolcolJ thanks for your input on excercises

I recommend doing these with dumbells, if you fall you can bail, but with a barbell on your back - things could get hairy! :)

It's a great exercise for helping with knee probs and fixing leg strength imbalances. Also seems to be a staple exercise in vertical jump improving routines, since it stretches the hip flexors (leg up on bench) as well as the leg muscles.

If I may stick in my two cents. Has anyone tried doing the split squat on a Hammer Strenght Lunge/Deadlift machine. I do it once a weak. I put my working leg on an elevated platform(4-6 inches)and the trail leg and the cross bar and perform the movement. More of a deadlift than a squat to me though. No worrying about balance, just execution of movement and progression. Added bonus is it hits the hammies and glutes and you can vary foot placement without losing balance. Just a suggestion. Any opinions or comments would be welcome.

Tend to agree about the dumbbells. Much safer. For split squats and step-ups I definately prefer DBs. I've done both, and had some safety "issues" with the bar when I pushed things a little too much... :D
