Asphalt Assasstouchers is bout to get good lookin, playas

Just saying I wouldn't under estimate a 250 Ninja if you have limited skills.

Be careful, bro.

Oh hell no, dude. I'm a smart kid with some balls....but a lot more brains and common sense. I respect the bike and its power before I even step on it. Hence, the "lesson" I am taking tomorrow.

Get some steel toed shoes / boots, dont' get ahead of yourself and pay attention - you'll be fine :)

If an over 40 dingy blonde like me can do it, you can do it too :)

smart to start on a 250. No need to start on a 600 or a 1000 and end up as hamburger helper in an Thai cafe. The 250 is enough to have fun on for a while. The main reason starting on a 250 is ideal is to learn to how to handle the experiance of being on 2 wheels. (traffic, turning etc) after you have a 250 for a while upgrade to a 600 etc.

good luck stay safe

Remember it's not a matter of IF you will lay it down, it's a matter of WHEN. And yes it is going to hurt.....my prediction for the wreck? PAIN.

Nice man. Confidence is key.

Never look at crash videos and never look at wrecks.

While doing 70 with a knee on the ground, the voice in your head that says "You can't do it" will get you killed. The one that says "Trust the tires and you will make it through" will make you Mat Mladin.

Then comes that voice that says......."OH CRAP". lol

Hell yeah.

The reward is worth the risk.

Think about how much pussy you can get by saying youve got a bitchin 98 Ninja 250.

Yeah, I need to get some gear. I don't really have much now. Any specific boots I should be looking for?

Thanks for the well wishes peeps. I'm a smart kid and don't plan to get ahead of myself at all. Very excited tho

Any boots that cover your ankle are good. And THICK jeans.... Double em up if you have to.

Denim is your best friend.

When I went thru the weekend class they said get steel toed boots -- I found some (like your std work boots) at Sears for like $35. The point I think is that its real easy to drag your toes so keep 'em protected. They also required good gloves and definitely denim / heavy pants.

remember, if you get scared... 1st thing you do after the bike is upright... pull clutch in then brake.

Once you find the friction zone with the clutch, stopping and going will be a cinch.

Okay, I am still alive.

Dude that taught me was fuckin awesome - 27yo Albanian kid (Italy's neighbor). Really smart, quality accent, and a natural born teacher. Lol, we talked a lot about Italian chicks. Anyway...

I met him at a huge parking lot in Forest Park in Queens. As I was sitting there waiting for him, 2 interesting things happened. 1) I had to pee so fucking bad I was forced to go into my 1.5 liter bottle of evian - and almost filled it up! 2) some jagoff in a Mustang came by and just ran donuts for a few minutes:

Anyway, dude showed up and just talked me through the bike and some general approaches to riding ("Always ride as if you're invisible", etc). Took me through how the bike runs and where everything was on the bike. Then I just sat on it and got the feel for it, leaned it to both sides to understand its weight (Ninja 250, somethin like 300 lbs). Then I started it a few times, using the choke. Then he pushed me on it for a while and we did some turning. Worked on braking a bit, where I managed to almost send myself flying over the handlebars (that shit be's sensitive).

Then we had me ride some circles with the choke about half way pulled down, more turning and some brake work. I eventually got the confidence to actually pick my feet up and relax and enjoy the ride. Worked on stopping a lot, which I suck at.

Then the fucking kid tells me he's gonna hop on back and I'm gonna ride around with him on the back for a while. Look, I don't mind killing myself, but I can't go killing any Albanians. Anyway, it was fine once I figured out how to handle the added weight distribution.

We ended by working on actually using the throttle to get going, as opposed to the choke. That took a little while to figure out, mainly cause I kept thinking in my mind that as soon as I let off the clutch and hit the throttle a little the bike would take off. Stalled out on me twice, but I got better as went along. It's amazing how damn sensitive the throttle is (and keep in mind, this is a 250). Anyway, I got better at it eventually. Repetition will be the key to success here. Ended up out there for 3 hours. FREEZING too.

We're gonna do another 3 hours next Sat. He suggested I get my permit ASAP so he and I can hit the local streets in Queens. Shit was fun, y'all. Found me a new passion :)

Oh, then I come home and see this - an Animal Hospital a few blocks from me was on fire. BLAZING. I watched the fire eat the fucking roof to pieces. There were about 10 firetrucks when I left the scene. I think all the animals got out safely.

be worthless for were i live...plus i don't think they are highway legal.
driving that in rural michigan would turn a few heads lol.
but seriously, you are gonna embark on a whole new scene...get your self a good set of tools, read your owners manual, try to do your own service work.
service/mainteance on atvs/dirtbikes/rockets is a hobby in itself

I know my man. One thing about me is that I typically study and dissect anything I am going to do like a total nerd (I do this with women as well), so it sets up well for this whole experience. Have a lot to learn

KB- sounds good. your instructor knew his stuff. iam sure he shed new light on what it takes to push a bike around in the elements. enjoy. have any questions, just ask. congrats bro, and most of all enjoy it. remember that NO one can see you at any time....

Cool man, when the weather gets good I'll make a trip down on my CBR 600RR and you can see how you like it for future considerations.

what you have on mind for your first bike KB?

The first ride on public roads is gonna be a bit stressful and you would think that every car is about to end up right through your bike.

Good luck dude

I know. Baby steps, baby steps.

Here's the deal with the bike. I found a 250 Ninja (1989) on craigslist. It's only about $1,000. Just spoke with the owner, seems like a decent guy. It's got 5,500 miles on it, no crashes, very minor body damage, new front tire, carb was recently rejetted (what does that mean?!), tuned up last season. Hasn't been ridden in a month or 2.

I am checkin it out tomorrow night. Since it's cheap, if it runs well I will buy it. It'll be a good thing to have around to learn the basics on (and probably drop a few times). Then when I grow into riding in a few months I can look into getting a 600 or similar. Then I'll still have my 250 to fuck around on, especially on the crowded city streets where I live.

You can find a 250 in the '90 for 1000$. Dont rush in. Check the paint job very good to see if its the original or not. If its re-painted it means its been crashed. If the guy lets you ride it around the block, make sure the gears shift smoothly. Check out some more sites. One of them was, I think 1 million bikes or something, look through the Motorcycle Trader and so on. You might get some luck.
