hex bars and cable machines

I am looking to buy a hex bar that would work for both myself (lightweight) and my boyfriend who is very into weighttraining but not a competor. Any suggestings for good quality hex bars? Also what are some good attachments for a cable machine? Anyone have any other ideas for Christmas gifts for a male weightlifter? No supplements or protein powders please.
