I always get emails from headhunters about positions in Texas, is it a cool place to live? What do people do there for fun?

Don't do it...If all you like to do is hunt and fish then go ahead and move here.

Otherwise it's extremely boring and traffic fucking blows.

Texas = flat, hot and boring. why would anyone want to live there?
Houston = ashtray
Dallas = concrete jungle with no water
Brownsville = classy place
Coprus Christi = even classier

I don't live there anymore but I grew up there and still visit family frequently so I am a little biased. Overall, I think it's a great place to live. Really easy to make a lot of money and the cost of living is moderate. You never have to deal with winter weather but the summer heat is pretty brutal. The women are pretty amazing, I realize everybody says this about the area where they live but that's my story and I am sticking to it. The only shitty thing is that everything is so spread out that you have to spend a lot of time driving to get anywhere. Southern cutlure is alive and well and for the most part a majority of the people have above-average manners and are pretty friendly. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Houston. The best thing about living there is you finally get to live in a state where you don't have to listen to peoples incessant whining about how much they despise Texas and Texans in general. God Bless Texas!

Thanx guys, I wasnt really considering moving there, just curious. I took a contract job to fill in for a month in Amarillo over the summer and it was miserable. I was just out of college and so the car that I had didnt have air conditioning. It was like a heat wave going on. It was over 110degrees much of the time I was there and then massive lightning storms in the evening, that was actually really cool. THe gym I was going to was airconditioned to 80degrees which was at least 30degrees cooler than the outside but still, its hard to run a treadmill at that temp. just forget about out on the street. I could hardly go outside so I never really checked out the place, Im used to moderate temps in the northwest not too cold, not too hot. It was quite a shock. The housing looked incredibly cheap though.

at least there is little to no humidty, that shit drives me absolutely insane. I prefer dry heat even it's over 100 deg
