Teen Mom Bristol Palin: the New Face of Abstinence - ABC News

She has a healthy baby boy who has just learned to sit up, but Bristol Palin said she's using her fame to tell other teens to do what she didn't do -- abstain from sex.

Bristol Palin joined Candie's Foundation as teen-pregnancy prevention advocate."Regardless of what I did personally, I just think that abstinence is the only ... 100 percent foolproof way to prevent pregnancy," she told "Good Morning America" today, backing away from a previous statement on Fox News that abstinence wasn't realistic, saying it was taken out of context.

The spotlight has been on the 18-year-old since her pregnancy was announced a few days after her mother accepted the offer to become the GOP's vice presidential nominee. She's now using that spotlight to promote a national campaign to raise awareness for teen pregnancy prevention.

The daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was appointed as a teen ambassador for the New York City-based Candie's Foundation because she believes she could be a living example of the consequences of teen pregnancy, which is foundation's mission.

"It's a hard choice, but it's the safest choice and it's the best choice," Palin said.

Nothing wrong with what she supports.

I often have asked myself if I should have went and spoken at the high school to the freshmans in the health education class about sexes, protection, and baby making when I was younger. I was a mother at 17, it was not easy!!
And to be able to let others know that it was not easy I do not think is that wrong of a decision to make...I think it is much better coming from someone who has worn the shoes rather than to come from someone who is basing it on opinion alone?

I agree w/Angel's take on the situation. My only reservation would be if she sounds as stoopid as her mother, maybe not so much.

shes an asshole...i cant stand that stupid look on her face all the time....another paris hilton...famous for no reason.

You are wrong about one thing. They are famous for one reason..

Because their parents have money, or their parents are into politics!

most people would call her (you) a hypocrite. . .you didn't abstain, so why should they. . .they would rather have someone that has actually abstained, give advice on abstinence. . .but not me. . .to the naysayers i ask "if you might have a brain tumor do you want advice from a brain surgeon, or from someone that really wants to be a brain surgeon really, really bad. . .but they've decided to wait to perform surgery until they're married??"

Gotta love hypocrites, it's okay for me to do it - but not you! Under the guise of 'i've learned and now smart, learn from me!'

Bet you 10 bucks if you ask her 'if you could go back in time, and use a fucking condom and not have the kid would you?' - 10 bucks she says no. She'd still have the kid. Integrity = zero.

This is great. Feel free to rob banks, sell drugs - as long as 2 years later you can go on tv and say 'learn from my mistakes. Say no to drugs!'. lol.

teenager, pregnant, father dumps her and out of her life, moms a cheating skank. Yes girls, this IS the role model you should have in life!! Who needs rosa parks, gloria steinem, oprah, mother theresa and other famous hoebags. lol.

With all due respect, I think that the arguements that this girl is a hypocrite are not valid. She's human. She fucked up and I would HOPE that this is her platform. You can't "unmake a baby" - "look how much harder my life is NOW because I fucked it all up" <--- if THAT is her platform then I would say she has is doing something POSITIVE with her fame, whether she *earned* that fame or not.

Lotta people who fucked shit up in their youth go onto become LIVING EXAMPLES of how much harder their lives are because they DID fuck it up but also they become role models for those who also fucked up it and slip hard down the slippery slope of despair never able to crawl back up to see the light of day. IMHO it is these people that are THE BEST role models for everyone not just those who haven't screwed up their lives but for those who HAVE.

Whether or not this girl will be able to walk the walk remains to be seen. But if she CAN then I say, "Good for her."

I used to machete old ladies in the face as a misunderstood angst filled teenager, but now that I've found Jesus & hand out bowls of soup at the community centre once a week, national TV asked me to lecture young people on knife crime! Woooooo!!!

I'm so proud of you!! Can you show up at our school at 3pm to lecture the kids of how horrible macheting old ladies are? You're an awesome role model!!

We'll tell that political prisoner who immigrated and started a successful franchise to go take a fucking hike.

The litmus test is if she's still taking raw cock. I do agree that if she's coming at it from the "I've fucked up" angle, than there is something to it. I mean she wasn't stabbing babies, she just got knocked up by a guy she probably thought she was going to spend a long time with. I got no problem with her as long as she isn't jumping on the pious wagon, which as a Palin I'm skeptical of her ability to do that. But if she is, more power to her. But a pox on her for life if she's out getting tagged cause now she's experiencing some 15 minutes of fame and get fucked by some really hot guys.....like if it comes out she's blowing the jonas brothers after their concerts..lol

LOL at Oprah being a role model. Though put on a high platform, most of her fame is due to middle aged women who are looking for something they are missing in life. Oprah's education was paid by some white guy. Did she give him credit, no, she took her money to Africa and built a school where the teachers and guardians beat the kids. Some role model. Oprah gives away cars for popularity, and she didn't give them away, the car maker did. Just like all the give away stuff on her show. She doesn't paay for it. It's all PR. In my eye's Oprah is far, far from a role model. She isn't even close.

Yeah but I don't care about participation certs either

getting a participation cert is like getting a ribbon at the special olympics.

They should be required to pass an exam or something
