HELP NIGHTFLY!!!! Pretty please???

Night Fly

New member
My mom pays for my cell bill...okay (don't tell me how she shouldn't...I already know that...lol), but I get a call from her today and she is made because somehow, I went over my minutes last month by 372...

Anyway, she was PISSED...and threatened to cancel it....well, I told her not to worry about it, that I would pay for the extra minutes (114 bucks worth). Well, she wouldn't have that...and I told her that if it would keep her from cancelling my bill then I would do it. This isn't the first time I have gone over my minutes, though...has happened about 5 times, but it's never been this bad. I can understand her being upset...

Well, then...we start arguing (which is becoming about a once a week thing...even though I live 2 hours away). She gets pissed and HANGS UP ON ME!!!!!!!!!! You know...I don't care what she does, but she HANGS UP on me... that is my pet peeve...and she knows it. Then she has the audacity to call me back and expect me to answer/???// I don't think so. I have been livid about it all night.

What do I do?

STORY NUMBER TWO!!!!

Another story. Because the mom pays for my car insurance/gas/maintenence on the car...they have a say so as to where I go. Well, I traveled up to where my bf resides...about 3 times without her knowing. Well, it's not a small trip....3 and a half hours...but I pay for the gas so she never knows that I go (or so I think).

Well...she just sent me an email about how she figured up the milage from when the mechanic worked on my car about a month ago to now. I have put 2555 miles on my car in a month. She asked me to explain this. Now...how do I go about telling her what happened?

Now...I don't want you all to think that I am never honest with my mother...because 96% of the time I am...it's just that she is a confrontational person (not intentionally...but is, none the less) and I just hate arguing with her.

WHAT DO I DO????

This situation is more urgent than the other one. She just called me again....nope...not answering the phone.

My AIM is currently Out of Order! That's why I posted this here. I don't usually post stuff like this here...but hey...Decem needed some entertainment...and then he runs off!!!! ;)

Support your ownself and then you won't have Mom breathing down your freeloading neck.

Just tell her the truth about visiting your bf.

Besides, he's too big for you to hide.;) ;)

As far as the phone goes, I wouldn't sweat it.

Ok, on second thought. ... the extra miles could come from going to the library for study papers... guessing you are a college student.

Or from running errands for a sick friend who had the flu.

Or you could say your car was "stolen" and returned before you missed it.

I don't know.... the truth usually works for me.

For the first problem, Talk to your mom, explain to her you are sorry for using too many minutes and you will pay the difference, do not get into an arguement again it wont make matters any better.

For the Second problem, You can either tell her you were visiting your boyfriend (does she not know about him or something?) if she doesn't tell her she may be a bit more understanding for the mileage, if you don't want to tell her for some reason tell her you would just go driving to clear your head from all the exams and work you have had over the past few weeks/months....

YOu know you don't have to be a jackass about that. Honestly...if you talked to my friends...you would know that I do NOT like my parents paying for everything...but seriously...they insist.

I wouldn't be able to make it as it is right now if they didn't.

So please...spare me the crap about how I need to support myself...I know that and I've tried.

Having your parents pay for everything is not the greatest thing...especially when you have a mother who constantly makes you feel guilty for it.

Well, she knows about him....its just that she wouldn't approve of me going up there so much because of the "milage" on my car. She says I am running the car into the ground and that I need to give it a break. If she didnt' pay for it...would she really have the right to say something?

if she didn't pay she would have no say.....i mean she would have say from the standpoint of being your mom and trying to put her 2 cents in but no no other say.

I understand that...but I do I go from not paying for much at all....to paying for car insurance/cell phone/house bills/rent...and stuff like that...when I go to nursing school all week? I can't fail out of school...but I do awful when I work too many hours.

I am not really sure what kind of advice to give you but I know what I would do because I was in a similar situation myself. My parents paid for everything under the sun: when I went out with friends, my schooling, books, gym, etc.
One day I decided that I was not going to feel guilty about them paying for everything and I started to become more independent (I was about 20 at that time). Now I am 23, I have my own place, work 3 jobs, go to school (my parents still pay for my school), buy my own food, and pay for my car. Granted, it was not easy, but I had to do it.
Well, that is a lie. I did not have to do it but I wanted to do it. I am sure that if I hadn't changed my ways, my parents would still be paying for everything.

To sum it up...perhaps you can try to become independent. You wont go wrong with that. Plus then you wont have to feel any guilt for anything (except maybe spending too much of your hard-earned money).

Nightfly, sounds like you've got great parents. So, I'd suggest just being honest with your mom, tell her you've been visiting your bf. But also tell her that if she does not approve of that, then you will find a way to pay for your own vehicle. The trick is you must be very calm and mature and rational. Let her know that this is what you're gonna do whether she likes it or not. Tell her you appreciate her paying for your car, but not if she's using it as a way to control you.

The cell phone thing --- get a plan that's got more minutes, in the long run it'll be cheaper.

Hope that helps! I'm kind of scared to give you advice now after that whole pizza thing....:D

PP...thank you SO much, girl. I like your advice on the first thing...AND the second thing! With the cell phone...well....I have 2600 min/month...lol. That is my own stupid fault. AND, I get free long distance, no roaming, etc... I only have 600 anytime minutes, though...and that is when I use my phone the most...but of course if you up the minutes on anytime 'time' well...just my monthly bill will be out the door expensive. :(

haha...oh yes...the dreaded pizza thing. I thought about doing that tonight, but didn't! :) I'm getting better!

Just be honest with her. Two reasons. One, you should quite simply not lie to your mother, or anyone else. Two, why give her something else to gripe about.

By way of comparison, my mother still tries to tell me what to do from time to time and I am 42. As long as she continues to be your mother, she will have the right to give you her opinion. After a while, it may change from the old "telling you what to do" to the "just trying to give you some advice, dear" attitude, but the point will remain the same.

Being independant and going to school is very tough. I have done it for the last four years and there are many things I have done just to stay afloat. You should apologize about the minutes and pay for it, but tell her you don't want to argue about it. Part 2 tell her you went on a road trip with your friends or that you went to your bf, she's gonna find out anyways if you keep going out with him, so why lie now.

Okay okay...not going to lie...already decided that.

I think she will be okay with it....hopefully. I think I really liked PP's idea. :)

Thanks for the input everyone else, though.

umm yeah. someone beat me to it. I was going to suggest getting a better plan, or youcould call on your night and weekend minutes so you odnt use too much of your anytime minutes. but then again, no one is usually available during that time. oh well. so waddup NF?
:fro:

DAWN......SOUNDS LIKE YOUR MOM DOESNT WANT TO LET YOU GO. TELL HER YOURE NOT A BABY ANYMORE. WORD IT RIGHT THOUGH CUZ SHE MIGHT THROW IN YOUR FACE "WELL YOU CAN PAY YOUR OWN BILLS THEN"!!! SHE IS A STALKER....LOL JK

KAYNE

OR MAY I SUGGEST GETTING A NEW PLAN FOR YOUR PHONE. ONE WITH MORE MINUTES!!!

KAYNE

Well, it is VERY important to me that your family likes me and does NOT associate me with anything negative at all. I hope that you can talk to your mom about this calmly, but I know that with YOUR mom it may be very hard. Just remember that in the long run...everything works out.

I feel so bad because of my work and school schedule I can not come see you more often. I will do my best from now on...ok?

Prayer, that works and you know it. Prayer and honesty.

Thanks, Sheez_Ripped....like B fold says...we are both very southern...but he has WAY more of a southern accent than I do....lol.

Azia...you are such a sweetheart...thank you SO much! Stripper? I really don't have the body or the confidence for that. Haha...I don't know if I would like guys staring at me with nothing on, either...yuck!!! The money would be great....but my dignity and pride mean much more to me than money ever will.

BUT...if you were gonna strip with me....haha...I wouldn't mind. :)

Just apologize and move on. I work and go to school and I'll be the first to admit I'm not where Ii should be in life. My parents pay for gas that's it, but i still live at home so my only bill is my truck payment. Going to school and working gets tough at times. If i were you I'd stick it out until you finish school. :)

You know...barefoot is more sexy anyway. I'd fall and bust my face if I was in those crazy things, too. lol

Bigguns7....I like that idea! lol

NA...thank you...you are sooo sweet.

B fold...don't lie...you know yours is worse! ;)

If you are going to freeload, then accept the consequences of breaking the rules.

If you feel so bad about it, then don't accept it. Sigh.......

I know that you love your parents and they love you.

Having said that -

If you REALLY don't like them telling you what to do with the "things" they give you... then do not accept them. TRUST ME - my mother has NEVER given me anything WITHOUT major strings attached.

It SUCKS ASS being on your own and busting your butt to get the things that you not only want - BUT NEED.

I admire you working hard in school, but if there were NO OTHER WAY then YOU WOULD FIND A WAY TO SUPPORT YOURSELF.

Big words from me... I haven't started school yet. But if anyone can not afford to fail out of school - IT'S ME.

I don't think that all of this is a really big problem. You already knew the answers to your question BEFORE you asked them I suspect!

Bfold is a great guy and you are a sweet girl. I wish the two of you nothing but happiness and mutual respect. But one of the first lessons that you will have to learn that NOTHING your parents give you will be WITHOUT strings... and I mean NOTHING!
Either put up with their "gentle suggestions" (hehehe) or pay the bill yourself. It is part of growing up.

I have already told ALL of my daughters that at the age of eighteen they are getting the boot. I will HELP THEM with college, but I will NOT PAY for several years of a PARTY! I payed for my own tution when I went to college and though I lived at home (sucked ass) I worked my behind off in my parent's business so I was VERY RESPONSIBLE - BUT STUPID because instead of finishing college I got married.... now I will have to support myself and four children while going back to school. Guess what? I made it this far with some help from my family and friends and of course, God. I have no doubt that I will make it through, just as I have ZERO doubt that both YA'LL will be fine! :D
