Hey bros im looking to one day own my own business a gym and supplement store. I want to go to school and get a degree in something related to fitness/bb/ nutrition....could you guys suggest any possible fields to go into ...maybe some of you are in these and have your own business and can share some advice....i am interested in particularly training nutrition and soem typoe of degree in advanced nutrition and something that has to do with the training/ human body field. Also what are some good schools i could attend for these... probibaly specialty schools? Karma for any help...Thanks

I know its not exactly what your looking for, but, an alternate point of view:

you might consider a business degree first, or, a minor in it or something. I have seen/heard of so many who loved to work out who bought a gym and failed miserably due to lack of basic business skills. What you really need to be successful is the business knowledge and the capital. You can hire the personal trainers, etc.

Actualy bro i am considering that... also....
My main concern is i want to have a skill related to fitnes/nutrition that i can use to gather the money i need to reach my goals of gym and sup store.....i would also get good satisfaction from a major in a field such as nutrition/ human body type...

Yeah, good point. I definitely question how much fun I'm having on business deals all day long....I say go for it......

I am going to finish my degree starting in Jan. I am going into corp finance. Its tough but what I have learned so far has been very good. Might want to look into it, could prove to be a good fall back just in case.

Do you have an idea of any potential fields...both in the fitness and busniess categories?

I don't on the fitness side, on business, I am biased towards a specialization in one of the more technical areas of business like finance or accounting. I started my career as an accountant then a commercial banker. Banking is not really a bad way to go, once you learn how to make loans, you know how to get them.......you may need one to buy that first Golds franchise!!!......

Having an understanding of bodybuilding will not make you a successful gym owner. It's all about business. You are most likely not going to make money with a hardcore gym.

Most of the hardcore gyms I know are run by AS dealers not legit business men.

Why not become a source? You can make decent money, save it up, open a hardcore gym, start selling gear out of your gym, meet a coked up stripper, become 280 at 9% and do nothing but train, eat and sleep.

Then your stripper girlfriend will turn you in and run away with your 3 year old girl. Then you can spend a few years in jail come out at 180 lbs and work for 5 bucks an hour for the rest of your life.

If your lucky, they will make an ABC tuesday night movie about your life. lol :) :) :)

dietetics... thats what im doing, once i get my degree im going to further my chemistry (cant be furthered much more) and broaden on to sports nutrition....

BigAndy69- you just described the last 12 years for my best friend. Except you left out the part of the Kidney Transplant.

Stillgoing hit the nail right on the head. Now that I am out of the business and going to school, I can say this: my last job I was in charge of the books and everything, it was not hard to get just about any loan I wanted.
