This company keeps calling my house asking for some girl Ive never heard of. They are really aggressive and sketchy, it took me ten minutes to get the company name, its NCO. But I have no clue who she is, its an obvious wrong number but they dont believe me. You cant talk to these people, what should I do?

Get a couple of cans of those stadium noise makers that spit out the loud horn burst and yell Wrong number ass and let it rip.

Thanks guys, good advice. BTW, I never give my home number out, the girl who theyre looking for obviously made it up. But they act real shady, you have to plead with them just so theyll tell you who they are, because they dont want to talk to me, they want "Tifany" .

where are you at? in california, if you tell them not to contact you by phone, by law they are not supposed to

Does the call come in an unknown caller? if it does and you have Bellsouth, you can get that privacy direct for $2.50 a month. It will make unknown callers identify themselves before your phone rings. Most won't give that information thus your phone never rings.

thats nothing dude, i keep getting this cumputer generated call that asks for my ex-sister inlaw
since it is a computer generated call I have no Idea how to stop it except to pay the bill
it gives an option to press #4 if i am not the person but i still get a couple of calls a week

Magic words:

If you say, "This is a BUSINESS. Stop calling here."

They have to stop by law.

Collection agencies can call residences till the cows come home. If they are told they are calling a business and that they are not to call there again - they must stop or they can lose their liscense.

Wish I had known that a few years ago when I moved and got a new number. I kept getting calls from a collection agency for the people that had the number before me. These people must have really taken off... friends and familiy were still calling that number for months after I moved there.

nope. once you tell them not to call your residency, they are not supposed to call by law

just pay them.

I know it was`nt your debt, but wtf it`s only money.

Give me credit for the MOST ORIGINAL RESPONSE. lol admit it

Actually, next time they call, Im just going to fuck around, try a few different voices, background noises. Like talking in a real high nasal voice with an all-star anal gangbang playing in the background "Tiffanys a little busy, shes trying to earn some money to pay you" or something like that. Its kind of nice being able to abuse collectors when its not your debt, lol. Any suggestions?

Here is an idea, tell the president of that company that you will sue them if they don't stop calling.

You can get businesses to do all sorts of things when you threaten them with a lawsuit.

HEY
if it's only money then why do they spend all their time bugging people about it then????

huh???

I'm telling you, just change your phone number. Soon, they'll sell your name to another collections agency and you'll get the calls all over again. Ad infinitum.

Damn. wtf?

Anyway, To get back at this chick that started all this debt to begin with, Get your(her) personal info from these people and do some more damage.

Hell, open up another account in your(her) name.

Has anyone ever actually got pissed off enough enough where they showed up at the agency and tried to kick some ass

I told a collection agency a few years they were more then welcome to come to my door and try to collect(cell phone dispute)

anyways the annoying thing about them is this unknown name unown number bullshit on caller id, what the fuck do we pay for services like this for if people and companies can hide thier identitiy and that goes for telemarketing bullshit too, should be a law outlawing unknown names and numbers on phones.

If you have to go unknown name number then you must be hiding for a reason and should not be calling in the first place

Man once I was at this strip club and the collection agency guy came right up to the stripper that was delinquent in her bills and fucking yanked the money right out of her garter belt. He said he was "garnering her wages" or some shit.

Aman you should've seen all the screaming and yelling going on that night.

Actually, depending on the information that they give you, you can sue them. I am very knowledgeable in the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act) and what they are doing is called 3rd party disclosure and its against the law.

Actually its the same for a residence. Its called "being put on notice". If a debtor puts the collection agency on notice not to call ever again, by law they are only allowed one more phone call to tell you what action they are going to take.

You can legally make them contact you via mail only, and stop phone calls totally.

LOL, guess who did their internship at a collections law firm. He He

Guess who used to be a bill collector... lol...

It's a lot easier just to change your number. But whatever. Go fight win.

Someone posted the information about the agency.

Most agencies have a compliance department that handles complaints. I know because I used to work for the third largest collection agency in the US. You can either call their corporate office, or check their website. I would lodge a formal complaint of harrassment, indicate that whoever they are calling for is not at your address, and see what happens.

Usually at this point the compliance group will contact the office that has your number and have it removed either from their dialer or the manual desk that your number is in.

Depending on the agency and the amount and type of debt it is either worked in a manual desk or on the dialer. Generally the smaller the balance the more likely it is to be worked on the dialer. Oftern larger balances are segmented and put into manual queues that are worked by one collector. If you are getting calls from different individuals there, it is on their dialer and you won't have much luck talking to one of them to get the number removed.

That is why I go for the compliance department.

Also, for those of you saying that he should do a "verbal cease" it usually doesn't work anyway. If you do that, and then they call again, it would technically be a FDCPA violation (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act). However, most agencies don't think consumers will know about the Act or how to file a complaint so they ofter disregard those verbal ceases and keep calling anyway.
