Help - dont have a clue

Keep Left

Hi,

I never really thought about my diet until now really. I was wondering if you could give me some advice on what i am doing and what i should be doing.

Normally i train in the gym 4 times a week - tuesday, wednesday, friday and saturday. My routine is i get out of bed, eat some corn flakes and normally a 2 bacon sandwiches, then i wait an hour and goto the gym. When i come back i then drink a protein shake(promax - http://store.maximuscle.co.uk/cgi-b...100017910dc273f0a020a01057d/Product/View/1003) and cook some pasta. Then i eat my normal meals, dinner normally some kind of meat and potatoes and then sometimes a late night snack like another bacon sandwich.

I dont take any supplements at all appart from the promax.

I am 6-2 and a lean 205lbs
The gym work i do is complex training using weight training coupled with plyometrics to make me more explosive.

Is there anything you can suggest??

I think you do know what you are doing, if you are a lean 205 at 6 2. If i ate like that I would deffinatly be a fat lard.

The fact is that if you are eating like that, that you are not getting enough calories to store fat, meaning that you are not getting enough calories to build large ammounts of muscle. If you want to gain muscle, up your protien and carb intake and minimize the fat intake. Eat as much as you can without gaining alot of fat.

what are you goals?

to be as strong and as fast as possible. And still maintain my low fat %

I can honestly eat just about everything i like, no one ever feeds me enough when they give meals. I am also a bit lazy, sometimes when im hungry I just dont eat because i cant be bothered going into the kitchen and making something.

I have recently cut down on all my shit food, like buiscuts and stuff, i used to eat a packet of digestives at 1 sitting. But im trying to be a little better with that now and eat healthier.

Oh and I love bacon so theres no way i can give that up. It is grilled though and pretty lean, i dont fry any of my food.

Basically my diet is - 1 main mean a day at dinner time(6pm) of steak/chicken/gammon/turkey/fish with potatoes. I eat about 2-3 meals a week of chicken and steak. With my other meals that i mentioned earlier.

I could show you a picture of my skinny body if you want? I dont think i eat enough, but i also dont want to get fat as last year i put on a lot of bad weight when i was on creatine and became very slow.

If you think it would help i could make a diary of everything i eat starting tomorrow, then you could give me some good advice.

I do get pretty good gains when i train. I was adding 2.5kg a week to every lift when i was training about a month ago, then i got a bit lazy and didnt go to the gym as much as i should have. Now im getting back into it and want to know how to make myself as good as i can.

But i am relaivly weak compaired to other people my size - Bench 120kg(265lbs) Squat 170kg(375lbs) Power Clean 90kg(200lbs).

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

dude, why the BS? you started training a month ago and you were benching 265 and squatting 375? come on ....

I didnt start training a month ago, i trained for a good couple of years but have missed a lot due to injury and being depressed because of injury.

I was training hard a month ago but got out of my gym rythem and then kind of lost mostivation. I'm now trying to put back together my offseason workouts and need some advice on my diet.

I took a note of what i munched today and it wasnt a lot really, i will take notes of everything for the rest of the week and post it all back next tuesday night, but for todays food..........

Wake up at 10:45am
Breakfast at 11am of :-
Cornflakes with semi skimmed milk
4 rashers of bacon(grilled)
2 pieces of buttered toast
a small glass of apple juice(~200ml)

Gym at 12-30pm ---> 2-05pm

Protein shake at 2-30pm
Pasta Meal thing(Batchelors Pasta 'n' sauce) at 2-30pm

2 litres of water(with diluting juice) drank thought the afternoon/evening

6pm Tea - Pasta meal with water

9pm packet of crisps(or chips for you americans)

1am another packet of crisps

2am - sleep

Ok this is kind of a typical day for my diet, looking at it i dont think i eat enough. I am a bit worried about over eating and becoming fat because i cant afford to become slow(again) So should i eat a few more meals thoughout the day?
Or anyother suggestions for me?

Have you tried the turkey bacon? I used to love that stuff. Its leaner than the regular. The 9pm and 1 am could be improved. Depending upon how hungery you are...maybe a turkey sandwich, or natty pb. Or at least add a glass of milk to whatever you are eating. Need some protein in there.

yeah i have the turkey bacon is quite nice.

Is there anything actually wrong with eating bacon?

Normally my 6pm meal is a meat so i get the protein from that. I do sometimes drink glasses of milk but i kind of found i get fat from it, maybe it was from something else but i do like a glass of milk.

The thing i dont know what to do is what to snack on when im hungry after or between meals? Should i just make a sandwich instead? Or what else do people eat? Do they just eat 6 "proper" meals a day?

Like i said i dont want to get fat, but i also want to add a lot to my strength so I want to be eating enough for that.

turkey bacon is good, no there is nothing wrong with eating bacon, it can fit into your diet. If you want a snack, eat a can of tuna! Try to avoid the bread, or whatever it is that is on your "sandwich"

I'm not sure why clean is recomending to leave off the bread. I will tell you that rye bread usually has more nutrients than white or wheat. There isn't anything wrong with bacon. The reason I was suggesting something leaner is because, IMO, you will need to up your calories considerably, and leaner food items will give you more calories for protein and carbs before you overdo it and get fat. Protein is the main thing, as you mentioned, but carbs and fats have a place also. Carbs give you energy, but the big thing is they keep you from burning the protien. What I do for my snacks is usually have something small. If I'm not at home I will pack a half of a pb sanwich (partially because I can eat it quickly!). I use protein bars also. Some people will eat 6 small meals, I prefer 3 meals with snacks just because of convience. Just remember to have protein at every meal, as it is the only nutrient your body cannot store.

man if i ate like that i would look like humpty dumpty!! some people just have all the luck....lol

i used to eat like that
and i was a lard ass
cut another notch in my belt today

faller - cheers for the advice, basically what your saying is i need to up my food intake and do it with a lot more protein? I'm not a big fan of peanut butter, would nutella do as a sub?

obiwan9962 - I wasnt as lean as i am now about 2 months ago, i lost about 14lbs in chub because of the way i was training. Now i want to put the same weight back on but in muscle.

anyone - how do i know how much i need to eat? I'm 205lbs so how much calories, protein, carbs and fat should i consume?

Just for fun I did a harris-benedict for calories, it ended up with a litttle over 3000 per day. Then I, personally, would do 50% carbs, 30% protein, and 20% fat. Everybody is different so you will have to work with it a little.

I said avoid the bread because there are many other sources of carbs for a "cleaner" bulk or cut.

Ok nutella isnt really similar to peanut butter for nutrients. Could i just eat like peanuts instead of the spread?

I'm not really a tuna fan, got any other suggestions instead of it? I know every eats tuna for the protein.

Yeah nutella is kinda harsh, but peanuts are great! Actually, I can't think of any nut that isn't. I used to eat almonds a lot as well. There are all kinds of things to eat instead of tuna, it's just a matter of how you want to eat it. If you are making a sandwich you can use lean cold-cuts, use chicken or turkey in "salads", eggs are good protein (if you eat a lot you may want to consider using some as just whites if you are concerned about fat), cottage cheese is good and comes in a variety of fat levels, as does regular cheese (although most fat-free are nasty). One my faves now is ground turkey, which I use like beef. On that note lean beef is good. If you want really cheap really lean, get "Lauras" in the green package, but get the stuff that is on or near the "sell by date" its usually 30-50% cheaper. AND there's also yogurt. Hopefully you like SOMETHING in there!

lol cheers for your help mate. I'll go buy a huge bag of peanuts for after gym workouts. lol

I'm not really too big on cheese or vegetables or fruit. And really only like Haddock, but i do eat all other meats and usually in large quatities. I do eat eggs too. Should i change from a pasta thing to eggs for my post workout food? Normally i make about 6 egg scrambled with some chopped ham in it! Its tasty!

I'll go have a look in the supermarket to see what kinds of things i might munch with high protein. I could also get some protein bars and more shakes, although last time i had the protein bars i had 4 after each workout so that might be a little expensive.

Anyway thanks for the advice.

If you can get carbs and protein post-workout that is best. If its one or the other, go with the protein. One thing I like is scrambled eggs with spagetti noodles and parmesan (major misspelling) cheese on top. Otherwise you can have your eggs and a muffin or bagel or cereal...just gotta find what works for you.
Wow, 4 protein bars! I need pepto bismol just thinking about it!

yeah 4, they were free at the time so we i muched as many as it took for me to get home. Its kind of amazing how you hate them the first time, but the more you eat them the more you like them. I think i might get some more on top of the whey protein, i can just munch then as a snack instead of eating the junk i normally do.

Basically what i thought was that within 1 hour of a workout your matabolism(sp) was so high you wanted to pack in as much as possible because your body could use pretty much all of it. So thats kind of what i did and still do.

Thats correct, keeping doing it haha.

What do you think of this stuff? I need to buy some more does it look to have all the stuff in the right amounts?

Promax Extreme

Max-Meal Bar

Anyone know any good protein bars i can get in the UK? Thoes Bars are protein and carbs, is that ok? And there like £2 per bar! :o
