Help: Carrying your passport in Mexico?

Do you use a belt? Should I carry cash? not the resort areas, but like the towns/cities (eg., Mexico city)...any other tips?

You have to be more specific about what areas you plan to visit. Some areas are dangerous for anyone with visible wealth, Mexican or not. Mexico City has a lot of seriously dangerous areas. If you plan to visit there specifically you need to educate yourself about it.

Yes you should carry some cash, but not a great deal. USD can get you out of scraps sometimes.

Pack heat and carry some money too. You might need some when you get caught by some corrupted cops.
