ive heard name brand computer manufactures (ibm, dell, gateway, compaq) include proprietary hardware in computer systems which restricts the availability of compatible computer hardware components. So upgrades cost more $$$$

I bought a clone frackal. No name. Assembled by some dude in his basement using generic computer hardware parts. Works great. Had it for a year. 1 year warranty on the parts. Very cheap. And because the majority of the parts are generic, motherboard, ram, hard drive, upgrades are inexpensive.

I was thinking about building a computer and calculated the costs and it seemed ok. The problem is you have to buy the software for the operating system and other things and that completely jacks up the price. So it can be cheaper to buy from dell bc of the software costs. You can just buy the bare bones from dell w/ the preinstalled software and then upgrade everything else for cheaper.

IMO, Compaq laptops stink. I've had a couple in the past and always had problems w/ them.

make your own and youll save a ton of money. plus, u can use whatever u want in it.

that's a lot of work for someone who doesn't know much about computers and can often be more expensive. mass produced comps are cheap cuz they're mass produced and not built by hand which is very time consuming.

dell without a doubt, ive been in comps for over 10 years, they use the highest quality parts, they are quiet, best support, best deals period!
