Go to Hyman's Seafood / Aaron;s deli, good seafood, reasonably prioced. It is in the heart of downtown. Also might want to check out Boathouse - good seafood and a big wine selection if you like that shit.
There are some tacky but fun places like Bubba Gumops downtown too. You can skip teh "she-crab" soup...not much to it.
Lot of antique shops on Queen Street and some interesting art galleries. More modern shopping is on Meeting Street.
Also the "city market" blows - street vendors hawking junk to tourists. Skip entirely, or just walk through quickly.
Nightlife? Tommy Condon's is OK, so is City Bar. South End Brewery is Geigh.
If you can get out to Mt. Pleasant...try a restraunt called "The Wreck". It is tricky to find (there is no sign), but well worth all the trouble. Charleston has been a second home for me. Hopefully, I can find a job there and move!!!!
Thanks for the suggestions Matt. Big4life I think suggested Hymans. The rest of my hubby's work group arrives at 8 or so so we'll go out to dinner with them. We did walk quickly thru the market & down to the riverwalk. Very nice houses....
o yeah i remember now... check out BeerWorks and maybe Silver Dollar... all i remember is almost getting in like 10 fights last time i went there. Guys don't like it when they're gf's flirt w/ u all night i guess...
I hope that you were warmer than I was down in Beaufort. That wind cut through me like a knife while I was on the beach. The best way to see Charleston is to do like you did today, get out and walk. Matt is right about the city market though, it is just a tourist trap.
It's kinda been a drinking fest so far.....work related stuff during the day, meet for dinner with the group, off to the bars!! Get up & do it again.
One thing I do miss is the non smoking law in DE where I'm from. I forgot what it was like to come home & stinking. Now I can't wear my jeans again cuz they smell so much!! Glad I brought a 2nd pair.
