What do you think of heavy eccentric exercises for growth ?

[with a spotter for the concentric portion of a lift and more weight than when you do a regular lift]
 
Negatives are great for growth, especially when you've been working up your weight and can no longer get your sets/reps on your own. Do negative a couple weeks for more growth.
 
Im not sure if youll get a lot of growth or not, but they will help with your strenght and any sticking points you may have.
 
It is shown that the eccentric portion of a lift is where the majority of growth occurs. Concentrics should be done as explosively as possible, while remaining controlled. No reason to teach yourself to be sluggish. A controlled, moderate paced negative will do fine with any exercise.

As for heavy negatives only, I'm sure these could be good near the end of a cycle where one would plateau in terms of both size and strength.

What kinda rep range you guys talking about here on the negatives?
Doing 3 reps on your own and then the negative for another 1-3 reps?
Specifics please?

recovery takes a lot longer though and you will get really sore
lots of fiber tearing - some of it permnant I hear --> not sure though :)

just don't go too heavy to start or bad things will happen
 
I never really did these much, though the concept behind them is interesting. Like Cwick said, the amount of weight needed to really train the negative can get really heavy. It seems 100lbs or so over one rep max is whats typically used for heavy negatives. Id have to go over 500lbs for those as well. Might do more harm then good. I did them with 455 a while ago, for a few sets. Might be hard to push 500lbs back off my chest, even with a spot. I could do them on the power rack, but probabally only one rep at a time. Might be really beneficial too though. Id do them if I didnt already do so much chest work.
