healthy weight gain

New member
So i decided to try and eat as healthy as i can but goddamn, how do you gain weight doing it??? I get so full and i eat maybe 400 calories. I wasn't gaining weight when i ate somewhat healthy (i did have lots of mcdonald grilled snack wraps..) So, is it even possible without forcing food down your throat and trying not to puke?

BRILLIANT! lol seriously that's a good idea i never really thought of doing that. ima be creative tomorrow, thank you

What did your "clean" diet consist of? Most clean diets digest and metabolize quite rapidly making it possible to eat over 5 meals a day. What is your weight and target weight and caloric consumption along with carb-protein-fat-ratio

Man, I'm with you. I wasted a year eating the typical "chicken/broccoli/rice" and Tuna every day 5-6 times a day. I gained all of 6lbs. Now, I spend almost all day on the road due to a new job. I pack my lunch box full of salad, chicken, sandwiches, yogurt, and usually some fruit. Once I eat all of it, I stop at mcdonalds for another 2500 cals. Someone will chime in that is bad for me, but the scale finally started moving. I'll be honest though I don't eat "healthy mcdonalds" I get 3 mcChickens, fries, and 4 apple pies.

For myself, losing weight has never been a problem. If I stop cramming my face, I can easily burn most of my weight off, though muscle will go with it. If I see something I want, i don't think, I eat it. At home, i still eat 2-3 chicken breasts a night, with normal starches and veggies. I would love steak, but its not in the budget.

obviously if you stuff your face with mcdonalds your going to gain weight. lol

you guys sound like your trying to bulk but no one is eating any red meats. You cant have a bulk with out red meats. how much cardio are you guys doing. You may wanna cut back a little on the cardio so your not buring as many cals.

You can call it stuffing my face, I call it finally gaining weight. I would love to be able to afford red meat, but steaks are around $8-9 a lb here, and I can get chicken for $1.50. I eat sirloin, ground beef, and flank steaks occasionally, but they are still more expensive, and take a lot longer to cook.

stop spending all your money on fast food and youll have more for red meat =o)

where do you live that meat is $9 a lb

how many cals are your taking in and whats your diet like. You should be able to put on some weight with out going the fast food route. Do whatever works but for me when once I get the taste of the fast food Ill want more so I just stay away from it all together.

I'm not saying my way works for everyone, but I got sick of stuffing my face with "healthy food" and getting no where. You are correct, i don't "have to" eat it, but it sure is easier. I eat every 2-3 hours, averaging around 5-6 meals a day. Sometimes more if I'm hungry. Breakfast is around 1500 cals, others around around 800-1000 each. Problem is, like I said new job, I'm on the road ALL day. If I don't have time to pack a huge lunch, then at most I can get a couple quick sandwichs thrown together.

T-bones, Ribeyes, Porterhouse are all between 8-9 a pound here unless I catch them on sale, which I stock up on. College Station, Tx. Sirloin ~3.99lb, GB 2.49lb, flank steak don't remember.

I don't consider Fast Food a meal, it is simply a means to an end. If I had been gaining weight on my last diet, I wouldn't have added it. But, I will do anything I have to, to get the scale moving. Sure, I put on a little more fat than necessary, but I've merely gone from 170lbs @ 31" to 203lbs @ 33". Nothing I am terribly concerned about.

Cheap & easy weight gain solution: those big sheet chocolate-chip cookie cakes. If you're looking for clean mass, then scrape off the ribbons of green St. Patty's day icing around the edge.

btw, McD is great for getting in a bit of extra cals... just be careful you don't move the scale too quick if you know what i mean. be sure to cut back on cals a bit if you find weight gain happening rather quick... for some this may not be much reason to worry about because they'll cut easily with minimal muscle loss. but for some others it isn't that simple.

Just to echo the fast food comments, it is a great way to rack up those needed calories. I am an ecto-meso and it's not excessive for me to cram down 6000 cals a day with 2000 coming from Wendys. Just last night before bed I ate 6 whole eggs, 5 strips of bacon, 2 Wendy's classic singles and a spicy chicken sandwich.

Right! Big Macs, Quarterpounders w/ cheese, and Strawberry Milkshakes!

I completely agree with you. All I hear is from people who can gain weight easily say you have to eat clean. Hey BS, if I want to I can drop weight faster than a Tijuana crack whore. I weigh about 187, if I wanted to weigh 165 in two months, it would be a walk in the park. Gaining weight is so much harder. Sometimes I wonder if people on this board even have jobs. How do you cook real food 7 times a day? Don't you have a life? Sure, I try to eat my grilled chicken and rice at night and other good meals when I can but you can't do that all the time. Now, I load up on weightgainer shake in the mornign, and since I'm on the phone all the time at work I can't really eat anything except shakes. So it's weightgainer shakes it is 900 grams of calories 152 carbs, 52 grams of protein. Who cares. I've tried to eat whey and oats, but it takes me either 2 hours to drink 400 calories or I yak. I dunno how you guys can do it, do you grind them up or something? Gross

Damn straight, and guess who would end up gaining weight in the end? 165lb jkurz with 3 almonds??? I think not. Go back to your roids and dreams of weighing 175.

i'd eat clean just get in the requred cals.....also, nix the weight gain shakes.....unnecessary........

I'd still be 165 benching 225 if it wasn't for weight gainer shakes..

I got up to 192 benching 280 with weightgain shakes as almost 40% of my calories. For ectomorph like myself, the only thing that really matters is getting in as much calories as possible by whatever means necessary. And when you are working 50 hour weeks, you need all the help you can get.

ummm bullshit....sorry to be blunt.....but its not from the weight gain shakes,,,.....there are 12000x different (and better in my eyes) ways of putting on mass....

only you would know of that many

Pointing out that jkurz can't put any of those 12,001 ways of getting calories into practice is irrelevant to the truth of what he said. There are far better ways to get calories than commercial weight gainers, most of which are loaded with maltodextrin and relatively poor fat sources (e.g., MCTs).

I agree, but to say that they aren't what has helped me put on mass is simply untrue. It's not rocket science, the more calories, compared to what you expend then the more weight you'll gain. Sure, I'd like to eat alot cleaner, quality foods...but when push comes to shove sometimes it's hard to get time with a demanding job. I know the weight gainers are not the best way to go about it, but they work for gaining weight. If I didn't use a weight gainer then I couldn't eat anything at all at times at work. When trying to gain weight, cheating by whatever means necessary is better than no calories at all.

I curently use MuscleJuice...I would love to use MuscleMilk and it is less of a weight gainer as well, but I just don't have the money. Muscle juice has too much simple carbs and maltodextrin..I'd love to find a weight gainer that had the protein, carbs, and fats of muscle juice but with complex carbohydrates,..I just can't find them anywhere.

Yeah, the true part I was referring to was his general statement that there are better ways to get cals, not his claim that they didn't help in your case.

Have you considered packing a few shaker cups filled with stuff to take with you to work? Then you'd just add water when it's time for the meal, which would give you a lot more flexibility in terms of what's in them and would probably save some money, too. Your main investment would be the protein powder, with the fat and carbs coming from stuff like olive oil and oats (grind up a big batch in a blender). They're dirt cheap and, as a bonus, are better than the types of fat/carbs in most weight gainers.

Yeah, it looks like Cytogainer, except with more carbs really. They sell that stuff in a 6 lbs tub at my gym for 29.99, but the best I can find Cytogainer on the internet is for 24 + shipping. My gym usually charges out the ass for stuff, dunno why I'm not finding better luck on the net.
