Hi guys,

Let me first state that I am not knowledgable about bikes and have never ridden one. However, it seems like alot of you guys are into sport bikes. Anyways, my girlfriends little brother(he just turned 18) just purchased a sport bike. He bought a Suzuki Hayabusa 1300. My girlfriend is very worried about this. She thinks he will kill himself.

Anyways, I researched this bike and it seems like it is too powerfull for a novice sportbike rider. He dosen't have much experience with bikes. I was somewhat shocked that the bike shop sold him this bike.

I am hoping that some of you guys that are into bikes can give me some advice on this. Thanks guys.

Yeap stick with 600. They are alot easier to throw into corners... and with a spotrs bike you like to drive fast. This being his 1st i would put my money down he' s driving to fast for his skill hits a corner and can't lean the bike down fast enough sending him straight across the other lane into a ditch.

NO WAY BRO!!! Nothing more than a 600 to start! The 'busa is way to much bike even for some experienced riders.
Today's 600's have PLENTY of juice behind them to make you happy until you're ready to move up.

lol, I just saw your sig.....look at mine :)

I don't agree with all these ppl saying that you should get a 600cc for your first bike. You will outgrow that bike real quick, and then what; you gotta sell it to get a bigger one. I would say instead of spending the money on a 600 and then having to sell it to the other wuss, spend it on some training at a sport bike riding school and then go get a bike with balls. Unless you buy a Ducati 749.

You're gonna get the guy hurt! I agree he should go to the riding school but there's NO substitute for being out on the streets, especially with an over-powered bike. The classes will teach him some good stuff but a bike like the 'busa is way out of most rider's class!!
If he outgrows the 600 in a year, great, trade it in for a bigger on then. But don't put the guy on a litre bike!

Bullshit,

Do you mean outgrow as in straight line riding? Than yes, he might outgrow it.(Riding in a straight line is boring as fuck).

Now, what is the differance between a 600 and a 1000 in the canyons? Answer= The rider.

No offense, but I'm tired of hearing this "you will outgrow a 600 in a year BS".

Example= My Sv650S has only 70-75HP. And I have smoked numerous tools on 165-170 HP bikes ( 100 HP difference!).

EDIT; To the original poster: Hayabusa for a first bike? LOL. I wouldnt doubt it if seriously hurts himself within 6 months. If you guys care about him, get him off that bike.

First off busa is a nice bike but it aint a lite bike as thay will call it it is more of a cruser persay, and yes it is heavy as shi* not very good for cornering at all it is more for strait out riding and going fast. Not the same as a ninja or cbr or r1 or what ever.

Think of it this way all bikes are fast if you give it gas the bike can have 6000 hp but you dont need to use it all LOL get it, but for skill it realy needs to be thare no matter what bike you have...........

Bro, you are borderlining the "I don't fugging understand what he wants to say" point... less slang and more english, please.

It's not fun to read as it is supposed to sound, we use our eyes to read, not our ears

i'll translate what everyone else is saying:

DON'T GET A BUSA FOR YOUR FIRST BIKE!!! That is, unless you want to die a gruesome death or want to be maimed for the rest of your life, from getting hit by a truck/car whatever...

the PERFECT starter bike for you would a 500 or smaller. So that means get a Ninja 500, thats plenty of bike for you to grow into.

You NEED to actually LEARN and KNOW how to really ride a motorcycle.

I'm just going by six ppl I know that wish they wouldn't have bought their 600+'s. 2 are in the market for R1's and the rest have GSXR 1000's. Granted, these guys have been riding dirt bikes all their life.

Get a 600 and even that might be 2 much for you

agreed,

get this instead:

Eventually you can move to bigger/better things

It doesn't make a SHIT if he's riding a 600 or a 1000 ,it all depends on the rider not acting like a damn idiot. If some dumb ass is acting stupid on a bike it won't really matter what size it is.
Do you people think that if he can only do 120 mph on the 600 that it will make any difference if he's going 180 on a 1000?

I agree with SVT-TROY, take a riders course and go with a bigger bike.Your resale value for a 500 or 600 won't be shit and you will have to find another newb that wants one which will prob make the bike hard to resell.

Bottom line.............Are you a responsible person? If yes then buy what ever fuggin bike you want. If no then start with a moped.

all I can say is I never get boared with a GSX-R600 or 750 on some twisties...I would much rather buy a small bike and ride for a year or so and find out i want or need more...Than buy a Busa and realise it was to much for me..you will take a nice loss in a year when you try and sell it....Thats if your lucky enough to realise it's to much bike before you are a statistic.

R.I.P. youll be down within two weeks on a busa if youve never ridden....this is absolutely one of the dumbest things ever....just put $12,000 in a pile and burn it...that would be more fun

Top speed on a busa is over 204 MPH.....imagine that..some 18yr old kids sitting on that rocket...or shall i say sitting in....way too heavy for him

Yea...... and he would prob live he wrecked and was only doing 120mph on a 600.

no brainer here. i hate the busa...its big, bulky, not very nimble, and is part rocket ship. it can be tough to handle well for intermediate rider.

i had an R6 in '01 and that was my first bike. i never grew out of it, jetted it up, full exhaust, etc. that was plenty bike. till i wrecked.

how fast does this kid want to go? i don't know where he lives, but most riders don't have the space to even go fast, let alone maintain high speeds.

i just think the bike is over rated number one, and number two certainly not for anyone other than an expert. there is no point having a bike you are scared of, and certainly no point having one that you cant redline every now and then. \

save the money and the funeral.

Personally, I think busas are stupid. The GSXR 1000 will beat the current busa now plus it weighs alot less so it will be easier to corner. I mean the busa is basically a drag bike for lousy riders that don't know how to turn. And to answer the question a busa for your first bike is totally stupid.

Thanks for the responses guys. I am trying to talk him into selling the Hayabusa for a more reasonable bike. This kid is hard to deal with though. All he cares about is how much power the thing has. His dad actually bought him the bike as a graduation present! This is a kid who was given a brand new M3 when he turned 16. Spoiled is too light of a term for this kid.

heheheh, my first and only bike I ever had was a 900rr. Yep, was too much for me. I never got hurt since I have a lot of common sence, but it was still too much.

Whiskey

i wont even get into this....its not worth my time....a "BUSA" is absolutley INSANE for a beginner rider....the dealership/salesman was an asshole....period.

Wrong. On a bike, shit happens. Whether it is your own judgement at the time, or someone else's. Controlling and skillfully controlling a 175 HP bike verses a 100HP is a huge difference. Which is why the size of the motor matters.

Do you people think that if he can only do 120 mph on the 600 that it will make any difference if he's going 180 on a 1000?

You might have a point here in reference to top speed runs, however, street riding, accleration is where a big bike can get you in trouble.

When you are riding a machine that can easily take your life in an instant... does such a concept as "resale" even matter? Hell no. Learn to fucking ride, and if you outgrow it within a year(90% of the time its not the case, whether or not the rider believes so or not) then so be it. Atleast you made a year on a 2 wheeled high performance amchine(Which you should be proud of).

I dont want to bring the cruiser/sportbike thing into this, but:

Do you even ride a sportbike/have owned a sportbike? If not, get the fuck off the thread. SVT troy mentioned what "other" people have said, i.e doesnt appear to be a rider.

Its funny, most of the hardcore sportbike riders on this thread(ride every weekend) believe in the start small, learn to ride theory.

Edit: Let's see if you can counter my points without any personal insults. Notice I didn't make any.

Agreed.

All, these "what bike/ how big of a bike should I get" threads are starting to become a complete waste of time.

The real sportbike riders say start small, learn to ride, and work your way up.

The posers/people who dont ride say the size of the motor does not matter.

Also, even if you "survived" on a liter bike, doesn't mean shit and Im sure your cornering skill shows it.

My second street bike at the age of 16 was a Ninja 600 you little shit. How many bikes have you ridden/owned? Just because you have very little experience and prob very little riding skills doesn't mean someone else can't learn on a bigger bike. The Haybusa may not be a good idea but i would def stay away from a little 500 that won't sell for shit after he's done with it in a month.

LOL I knew it. You couldn't counter my points in a intelligent manner and have to resort to bullshit comments.

Very little experience and riding skill? You don't know me son, and don't let your ignorant ass think so for one second.

Grow up.

Son? lmfao! You didn't answer my questions? How many bikes have you owned and how long have you been riding?

I'm guessing your stupid ass isn't old enough or experienced enough to be giving out riding advice.

there is a difference if a 17yr old spoiled brat
jumps on a busa ....or if he jumps on a 600.....how old were you guys when you got your BIG bikes as you put it...ive ridden dirt bikes from when i was 9 yrs old..and bought my first bike when i was 17...had one ever since....and when i was 17 years old i had no business being on a bike that 1. costs that much and 2. is that fast....and YES there is a difference between 120 and 205mph....at 120 you have a split second to react and slow down or evade......at 205mph....you dont have any chance in hell
