Ok well he is a bit ahead of what I expected as far as age..

But this morning I was getting my younger two ready for school and my oldest was peeing. He mutters "what the hell". I thought nothing of it and went about my business getting socks and shoes on kiddies...Well he then comes out and sits near me but says nothing, he generally does this when he is bothered by something. So I say "whats up bud"...He says:
"Well that was weird it was hard and had like a bone in it" so me still not paying enough attention ask what he is talking about..He points towards what i thought was his stomach, lol..I finally get it after!! I am so blown away I don't know what to say so best response is "talk to your dad when you get home from school about it"

So we pull out of the drive and he says "mom why does it get stiff and stick straight up?"

HOLY SHIT. I was totally not prepared for any of this. I just explained in a polite manner that it is something that boys go through and there is nothing wrong with it and that he still should talk to his father, it just means that he is growing up...

So now, I think I handled that rather well. lmao
I am scared of whats next!
 
definitely have the kid talk to needto. that's the simple answer to this thread. he WILL know what to say.
 
I am going to write his explanation of it in his baby book, then show his first serious girlfriend all about it

I guess I will know eventually what he is up to when he sits in the bathroom with the door closed for long periods of time.

Was just talking about how he is going to eventually need his own room as he shares one with my 3 yr old son, well I think that may happen more sooner than later. He already wants his own space as it is, I can only imagine what it will be like.

This is too funny. I was just wondering last night how I'll talk to my daughter about her period, etc when ti time comes. I still have 11 or so years and I'm freaking out. I know this is a funny thread but needto and angel just really came to a real life parenting issue. lol. i know they're squirming.
 
man. when i was a kid, there would always be a bunch of words in a song's lyrics whose definition i didn't know. for some reason, of all the fucking words i didn't know, I just had to ask my mom what masturbation meant (note: song was unglued by stone temple pilots). first and last time i ever asked about song lyrics

My boy knows what his penis is for, he knows a little bit about sex, he knows men (including himself) love the bewbs...LOL, I recall when he was barely 9 yr old he brought home a comic like book from school book fair he bought, only reason he bought it was that on one of the pages it shows a bit of tit! Hahahaha
I just did not know he was poppin boners, I mean I Kinda figured. But I did not assume that it would pose questions directed towards me.

Most kids pop wood from an early age. Much earlier than 10. Your younger one most likely also has them. I remember far back as being 5 years old myself.

I don't know why some parents fear or dread talking about these things with their kids. It's just life, and when talked about between a parent and child appropriately there is no reason to worry about it, fear it or be embarassed about talking about it. The kids need to know, and it's better than them hearing wrong things about it from their friends and having them be influenced apart from what you feel is an appropriate perspective.

When I was a kid I was at my grandparents house sprawled out on the floor reading a magazine one evening when i came accross the word masterbation. I looked up at them and asked "what is masterbation?". They both just stared at me for a long time. lol. I wish I had heard it at school first by my friends rather than explained by my grandparents. :worried:
 
School didnt teach me shit about sex and neither did my parents. I learned about sex from a judy bloom book in the 6th grade.

Well all four of my girls began menstruating in the last 3 years, the last 3 years they have lived without me and stuck living with an abusive moron. Can you imagine? I found out that my girls began their periods via text message, in secret and had ONE conversation, about bodily functions with ONE of my girls. :(

Angel, I know it caught you off guard and seems sorta creepy at first because after all growing up or not this is YOUR BABY and your first born at that. Just be cool and tell the kid whatever he wants to know without volunteering too much information. A child will always let you know when they have heard enough as they either change the subject or just walk out of the room. LOL

My oldest REALLY broke me in for "the talk" early. I was big pregnant with her youngest sister. She was 4 years old and she wanted to know EXACTLY HOW the baby "got in there". :worried: I tried to gloss over the specifics as best I could and the child wasn't having it. She wanted to know HOW the baby got there. So I sucked it up and got out the baby book told her all about it with accurate names for body parts and functions but not getting too graphic, just broad specific terms. And ended the talk with the end of the baby book: an illustration of the baby coming out of the vagina. So I asked her, "Did I answer all your questions?" She said, "Yes."

I said, "Is there anything else you want to ask me?"

To which she replied, "Can I come when the baby is being born?"

I answered, "Sure, daddy will bring all three of you to the hospital to visit when the baby is born."

She said, "NO - I mean, can I come when the BABY IS BEING BORN?"

So I thought, well the child has seen herself and her two younger sisters being born on video tape. Why not? I told her it was up to the doctor. After I told my doc what the child volunteered and that she had seen videos of herself and her sisters thousands of times he said, "Sure, why not?"

It was the most amazing experience EVER... As a matter of fact my oldest daughter held "her baby" before even I did! They had SUCH a beautiful and close bond those two... *sigh*

She had often said she wanted to be a doctor because of that...

I hope that I will have time to repair my girls' relationship and help them to get back on track academically.

Angel, my sister went through similar experience with her son. Her oldest is now 12 in Mar. My sister fuh-reaked out too. LOL So I had to come over to break it down for my nephew and her even though SHE was the one with boys.

I was happy to do it. :)

The first time it's wierd when you discuss your child's impending sexuality, but if you just take a deep breath and treat it like TEH GREAT rite of passage that it is, with privlige and honor and a bit of light-hearted "calmness" because it is so natural and normal I promise you that it will get easier every single *difficult* discussion that you have about growing up and becoming an adult. I promise. :)

Oh... boy do I remember the day I had to explain to my son. He was also quite young, and I had to explain a whole lot more. Not easy at all, I then went and bought him a few books to read about puberty. I explained to him that it was natural, nothing to be ashamed of and answered all his questions. Now him being 14... he is not so inclined to talk to me about any of those matters. Not sure if I should talk to him about sex right now or not. I can't stop him from doing what he wants to do when I am not around but I can give him the information to keep safe if something like that were to happen. Gosh I hope he waits a long long time for that.

If you want him to wait, then tell him so. He may just respect your wish and do so. I'm 25 and still waiting for marriage for that. Laugh all you want, but I'm proud of it.
