Does that count?

that is fucking cool. but you were in jail and you know what jails are most famous for, right?jafo said:yes .... I got picked up on a warrant (failure to appear in traffic court ) when I was 19
and one the guys in the cell that I was talking to paid my $50 fine so could get out

it's good enough, a stranger did something for another stranger, knowing how much you needed help.jenscats5 said:It was the best thing I could think of.....
i really can't think of anything right now. i'm sure i will. but as for myself, i go out of my way to do things for people, mundane stuff mostly, but i still try my best to give them something more than they had moments before....but i'm not sure if they are the same things.velvett said:Yes.
And between you and me sometimes when the event pops into my head - I wonder if there really are angels among us.
that is a great story.Phenom78 said:Not me personally. But this is one of my favorite stores of all time.
As a young man Herbert Hoover was trying to earn some extra money by holding concerts and speaking tours by various well known people of that time. Unfortunately the business wasn't going well for him.
He then struck on the idea of holding a concert featuring a world famous Polish Pianist of that time. The concert sold out fairly well, but as it happens, not well enough to cover the contracted fees of the pianist.
So Hoover went to the dressing room, cash box in hand, with all the receipts from that evenings performance. He told the pianist that he didnt have enough to pay him at the moment, that he didnt have money left over to pay for the hall, but that he would do everyhting he could to pay the man the full amount as soon as he could. He offered him the full take from the evening, knowing he would still owe not only the pianist, but for the hall as well. This at a time when owing money was a pretty serious offense, and could even land you in incarceration.
The polish performer told young Hoover to take out the cost of the hall from the receipts, to keep 10% for himself, and the painist would settle for what was left and call it even. For a young broke guy who could of ended in jail this was a mercy beyond his wildest dreams.
Decades later there was a terrible famine in Poland. Millions of people were starving. Lots of countries gave aid, but none more generous or more quickly than the US. We might have helped regardless, but doubtfully as fast or as greatly. Because an older Herbert Hoover never forgot the kindness shown to him by a great Polish artist, who just happened to be the President of Poland at that time. A kindness repaid, decades later, that helped save millions of people from starvation

HumanTarget said:anyone, a stranger, do something for you out of sheer kindness? i'm not talking about letting you in front of them in line or holding a door for you. i'm looking for something kinda substantial, with spontaneity........a selfless act...
i was kinda hoping for something like this to be revealed.biteme said:Yeah. My car broke down on one of the few icy days in Texas. The roads were iced over and I had a blowout on a major highway. Guy pulls up behind me and offers to help. He wouldn't let me do anything. Changed the tire himself with a rusty broken jack. He busted his ass. I was kind of embarrassed by the act of kindness and his willingness to do everything. Finally I spoke and asked him a few questions, the answers he gave is one of the great events in my life. A myriad of strange coincidences. There is something out there far greater than us.

we were waiting and this fucking feeble old man gets out of his car and takes maybe 2 minutes to get from his drivers seat to the trunk, pops it, and is feeble as shit witha cain. i get out of my friends car and grab a package out of his trunk and ask him which house is his and if i can help him. he points and says yes. i take a grocery bag to the door (it was kinda heavy) and i wait and hes walking so slow...i put the bag down, step off the path the pass him, grab another grocery bag, take it to the door... i take 5 bags of groceries to this guys door before he even gets to his door to open it. i have no idea how he was gunna get his groceries inside...prolly woulda taken him all day.
i go back to my friends car and his gf goes "wow that was so nice of you".
im a little shyguy so i tell her to fuck off
everyone is a selfish ass at times.biteme said:I don't really think much of myself because I know I've been a selfish ass many times, but if I had one wish, I'd wish for my dad to be cured, and I couldnt stand him growing up but he's a good man and it pains me greatly that he and my mother cannot enjoy their retirement age the way they should. There's a reason behind this.

good deeds are a big deal to do, but alot of people dont see these good deeds as anything big. human nature.

those sound like typical perks for any woman. in any shape, or form.HeatherRae said:Many nice people have done kind things for me. One teacher took me under her wing as a second daughter, of sorts and was responsible for so much in my life.
Many people have helped when I was a struggling student and my car was broken down on the side of the road, never asking for anything in return.
Hospice workers came to my house so that I could go to the grocery and get a little break when my mom was bedridden.
Private donors donated money to scholarship funds which I received. Without them, I probably would not have been able to attend college.
People smile and wave or have a kind word to say, which really picks me up.
There are a so many random acts of kindness that people give to us everyday. All the kindness that exists in the world is a creation of the divine. At the end of our lives, I believe that the only thing we are judged upon is how much kindness we put out into the world. God is not impressed that we won awards, got degrees, made money, or were popular among our peers. Small kindnesses are all that matters.

1). reread thread title, Einstein.Frisky said:I've had one instance happen to me recently with my church. Recently after the hurricane I've reached out to help a family I met in wallyworld that was dislocated due to katrina. The family had lost everything, I didn't have much on me but I gave her every cent I had for her to pay for clothes (that she would have had to leave there because she didn't have the money for)

Come time to pay I realized I left my wallet at her house. She couldn't reach her mom (before cell phones)
An older man and woman must have figured out what was happening and thus paid for our meal. They wouldn't allow me to take their name & number to pay them back despite repeated attempts by me. I was very gracious.

and yea... bitch... wallyworld!
My church not once but twice reached out to help all that were affected by Katrina. I sure wasn't expecting them to hand me a check to help me, but they did. I was a sticking pt at that time between helping everyone else and the cost of repair to my home and what it cost for hotel rooms and such to leave for the disaster. I could never say enough good about my church.
there ya happy?![]()
