ever gone on a vacation alone??

I want to get away once my son leaves. I don't feel like going with someone I barely know or like and most of my friends are married and travel as families.

Have you done it? Where did you go??

I know...that's what I'm sort of thinking but then I've heard lots of people do it. Maybe I need to find a resort that caters to singles. hmmmm

Woody...you traveled alone right??

I traveled alone a lot before I was married. I always met people and had a good time, however I did travel with an agenda. I went to Belize to dive, so it was easy to meet other divers. I hiked and took trains across Europe, and you always meet people that way. Places where I just lounged on the beach were pretty much the only times I didn't meet people as much or I met them in bars. I met a woman in a margarita drinking contest in Cabo once. We were the two finalist. I'll probably be travelling alone again soon as well. I have 10 years to make up for.

I have been to a few places alone ( Dominican, costa rica and dubai)

mainly cause my friends schedule didn't match or couldn't afford it.

Depends where you go, it can be fun.

I had a good time: no complaints.

Places I went with women wanted to shoot them by the 6th night

Places I have been with friends always a good time

That's good advice...I need to figure out if I want an agenda or I just want to go lay on a beach for a week.

Where are you going?

I don't know. I haven't really gone anywhere outside of Canada and the USA. I want to go somewhere warm and likely just for a week. I'm gonna do some research this afternoon since I have NO motivation to do my real work! lol

I haven't but I would. It's something I want to do once and then no more. I enjoy traveling alone but have never actually vacationed alone.

I isolate myself easily and way too much. I could totally see myself doing that and enjoying it and then..continuing to do that. And then dying alone.

So once. lolo

Traveling with a woman can be a relationship killer. It's like being chained to them. You have no free time for yourself. A weekend getaway is best.

Traveling with friends was always good. We always did everything last minute, so it was always an adventure. I'd get a call saying to pack a bag & grab the passport, ride was coming in 20 minutes, and I wouldn't know we were heading to the airport until I was half way there.

I'll sacrifice and go with you on vacation Cali

When you go take my weiner and give it to Cali don't you fucking touch it tho

You are right- too much time to stare at each other- everything is together. I like my space and don't mind seeing my chick on the weekends only. or in short spurts.

I never did the last minute things always wanted too. like pack a bag and take off. I always need ample notice to plan etc. friends is always good if you wanna just party and get shit faced.

Dubai I kinda wanted to relax and see all the cool shit so went by myself.

I've heard great things about Costa Rica

Skip Costa Rica unless you want to spend your vacation with all white tourist from the US.

Turks and Caicos, Cuba or Jamaica would be better spots for lounging on the beach. Cabo is actually really nice and fairly inexpensive compared to most beach destinations.

Cool story

I'v heard really good things about St.Marteen as well.

Jamaica like costa rica is too touristy iv been on the resort and stayed with a friend in Kingston( I had more fun in Kingston in the city)

Aruba- is really nice as well for lounging

I went to France alone a couple years ago. I absolutely loved it and had a perfect time. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I would never go to Paris again. I want to go visit Omaha Beach though. I think we are going to Bali next year

I just found it to be really busy...I thought a lot of the people were rude as well...you must have had a better experience! I waited 3hrs to get down the Eiffel Tower lol...I would love to see the country side of France

I did. It was my 2nd time in France. I spent about a week in Paris and the last couple weeks in the country, the closest town I stayed in was still more than an hour outside the city.

It was absolutely gorgeous, the people were considerably nicer, the food was incredible and there were lots of great markets and little festivals and things.

Go again. :)

Susan Cain: The power of introverts | Talk Video | TED.com

In a culture where being social and outgoing are prized above all else, it can be difficult, even shameful, to be an introvert. But, as Susan Cain argues in this passionate talk, introverts bring extraordinary talents and abilities to the world, and should be encouraged and celebrated.

:)

It does mean that solitude matters and that for some people it is the air that they breathe. And in fact, we have known for centuries about the transcendent power of solitude. It's only recently that we've strangely begun to forget it. If you look at most of the world's major religions, you will find seekers -- Moses, Jesus, Buddha, Muhammad -- seekers who are going off by themselves alone to the wilderness where they then have profound epiphanies and revelations that they then bring back to the rest of the community. So no wilderness, no revelations.

I've been also thinking about driving into the Rockies and getting lost for a week there. More solitude vs a beach resort.

Most insightful my friend :)

When I was in New York I ditched my husband a couple of times and enjoyed a couple of cool things alone (Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Grand Central station and others). Sometimes it can be nice to be silent, accountable for nothing and on your own time. Enjoy it!

Probably about time to start being a little more nice to me.. I'll put a word in for ya!

Seriously, I go once a year to Reno for the Hot August Nights car show & auction, and I go alone. That's because my wife would hate every minute of it (up at 5AM sharp; walk 3 hours in 105-degree heat at the swapmeet, then walk a few more miles after breakfast to see the other events). All other vacations are both of us, and often my in-laws (nice inlaws; not the usual kind ;-) )

Bali is ok, there is a lot of yoga retreats there. Easy to pick up women with mental disorders...

that's what I look for in a vacation...although, maybe I'd fit right in

I feel like I'm starting life over again. It's weird!

Decisions....decisions....

I am late to this thread but let me weigh in here because most of these peeps are full of shit.

One of the best trips I have had was two days I spent by myself wondering through Paris. I don't think I said 15 words the whole time and none in english. Reason is you can look at things on your own schedule - one can spend a full day in the Louvre.

Anyway - nice digs and safe:

Thailand - surprise!! Go to Krabi - hang in a beach bungalow, snorkel, rock climb, massages, thai food on the beach, kayak through mangroves. Lots and lots to do. Tis the rainy season.
Bali - pretty spectacular landscape there. Beaches are average. Food and facilities are wonderful.
Costa Rica - it is sort of a Thailand without the jet lag. Some nice beaches great jungle trips, white water rafting, river tubing, zip lining. Woodyo is full of shit about it being all white.
Mexico - I would give it a pass now. Not safe enough for a woman to hang alone.
Laguna Beach - what is wrong with good ol Cali. Love that area. Cool breezes, great restaurants and plenty safe.

I actually really appreciate this input. I've been doing a lot of reading online and have read several articles on women traveling alone and some of the top destinations to go for solo women. It's far more of a trend than I realized. Thailand is actually highly recommended and is somewhere I've been looking at. Then, there's a part of me that thinks I should stay in Canada in the summer and go over to Spain in the fall to watch a few of my son's games. IDK!!
