Has anyone tried a supplement only diet for a week or so?

All I have had today is a couple of protein shakes. I am wondering what the effect would be if I kept this up for a week. I will experiment and report results here.

Right now I am about 207 at 6ft with 18% BF.

(Can't promise how long I can keep it up, I love food!)

not a good idea.......

shakes are gone from the system within 45 mins or so, leaving your system with nada to pull nutrients from to encourage growth and maintenance.

As well, your metabolism doesn't have to do damn near anything to work through shakes, so u can expect your metabolic rate to slow quite drastically. If u did this for a week, u better introduce solid food slowly, and watch those carbs or you'll add blubber faster than a whale......

Y E E E E E E E E E E S S S S S S (etc...) I remember as if it where just yesterday:nighty: :

I was trying to cut down a few % points after a bulking cycle quickly since it beach time was coming close and I thought, what the hell and pretty much ate MetRX 5 times a day with one actual meal you had to chew in the evening (low carb meal though). The MetRX's average about 500 cals (add milk/etc) and cranked up protein to about 300-400 grams per day. Despite a hefty calorie count of about 3500 the extra fat dropped off fast, faster then a Clen+T3+ECA+Winny cycle that my normal lazy ass would use since I can't stand living on MRP's.

I would recommend it as long as you can survive 4 weeks on liquid shit. Here are few pointers from your old Uncle Platehead:

- Spread them out a couple hours apart - DON'T go long without sucking down some more protein or you're metabolism will crawl up and die... Either that or you'll be fighting a fat person for twinkies.

- Consider using ECA pre-workout if you're not already. You'll have zero natural energy for intensity and/or crap out quickly if you don't mix in some stimulants. Avoid snorting cocaine or smoking crack though as they can make you too jittery.

- Don't swim in the pool with shoes on

- If you have to blend up the MRP with some of the recipee's you'll find in posts/etc. I never did since I was too lazy to spend 30 minutes making an MRP that would taste like shit either way. I just shook and drank.

- Watch out for Racoons that are taller than you, their scary and usually hungry.

Hopefully these tips where helpful, just remember an MRP only world is a lonely world indeed.

These are good tips, but they differ drastcally. SC if what you say is correct, why are shakes good at all? At any rate, I would only try it for a matter of days, not weeks, and hopefully my daily workouts will help keep the metabolism going.

Platehead, my shakes are an EAS powder, not an a MRP per say. I will heed the advice of taking one every couple of hours.

I will really be surprised if I can keep this up more than 3 days without cheating big.

well.......

shakes are okay in between meals, to get more protein in your system. Since u preceed and follow with solid food, metabolism slowdown isn't an issue. ( I don't use MRP's with carbs, only whey protein with flax oil). Usually one would have a solid meal, then have a shake about 2 hours after that, then eat again an hour and a half later.

Not saying all do this, but it seems to be a common practice. I'd like to eat 6 solid meals, but who are we kidding, that's hard to do if you're busy! LOL.........

Let us know how it goes.

Judging by the information you provided, I assume a few shakes mean 2-4; thus, you took in about 160 g protein (I'm overstating, of course) or about 640 cal. At your weight--207, you should be eating at LEAST 2000 cal, which is really cutting it down from your BMR 2400cal (that's a 20% decrease, where I recommend no more then 10% below BMR).

In your case, it is feasible to subject yourself to the diet, but you have to consider the protein/carb/fat ratios needed. Thus, the least thing I recommned is trying a meal-replacement. EX: met-rx. Personally, I have exeprimented w/ met-rx 7 time a day, (about 2100 cal) and added flaxseed oil to the mix alternating w/ MCT at the same time. The results were amazing. Of course, it is very hard to do, and I think you can get the same results just by eating food.

If you keep your caloric intake at such a low rate, a few thing like leptin levels and T4-T3 conversion will falter (slow down, or in some starvation cases will be greatly hindered). At the stage of caloric intake, I would say your body would be in starvation mode; therefore, fat-loss would NOT happen. Moreover, I would again recommend if you're set on try the shakes stick w/ meal-replacements and some healthy fats.

Again good advice, thanks. First of all, I've already "cheated" a little bit cuz I had my wife's spaghetti for dinner last night. :)

Based on what I'm hearing from you guys (and my limited will power) I am going to stick to shakes all day, maybe snack on a little beef jerky, and one good meal for dinner.

As far as the under-nourishment Mr. X, I am doubling the size of the shake and taking one every 2-3 hours. Each one is 230 calories, 40g protein, 8 carb, 4 fat.

I woke up today weighing 1lb less than yesterday and 1 BF% less.
