Hard to Open Amps

I have seen similar threads addressing this issue, but never really paid much attention because it has never been a problem and always thought:

What type of wimp has trouble opening amps? But now it's happening to me.

Tried a new brand, and have opened 4 glass amps so far, and have had a problem each time. I just can't pop the top on these stubborn little bastards. The glass is really thick. Have tried to file and hack saw blade around, the collar to weaken it. Also popped top with pen cap. Maybe I need to invest in an amp opener, as I prefer individual doses. Because everything else, short of a circular saw has not been the answer. Any ideas.

I tried a amp opener......they suck......go to hardware store and get a small triangle file....file around the entire neck and snap it off with pen cap

I got an amp opener from getpinz.com.....it's still a bit of a hassle. Getting the blade on the opener to get a good filing contact on the amp neck is not that easy. And then you have to be careful not to pinch together too hard or you'll do exactly what you got the opener for to help you NOT do...which is shatter the neck. It was still alot better than having no opener.....amps suck, period. The thumb technique is scary....you start pushing really god damn hard and you can't help but back off....if that neck shatters you WILL drive your thumb into the shattered pieces.....now you've got two issues on your hand, pun intended......bad amp, fucked thumb!

i'm not sure if it's the smartest thing to do but i just carefully role the a jagged knife in the groove with just enough pressure to crush it (i lack patients). my vial always stays intact and i haven't gotten glass in the oil yet, not that it would go up a 25g anyway

maybe you have some thick ass amps cause i have no problem opening any i have ever recieved. (get mine from organon) i bought some cheap steak knives from a local food store with very fine teeth. After i score the edge for about a minute i take a two wash cloth and wrap around both the top and the bottom of the amp and snap..presto! test is waiting for me.

I use an amp opener from GPZ and after 100's of uses i love it,to me it's better than anything out there

I bought a fancy amp opener off the internet. However, I find that the cap from a magic marker works better. One quick snap and it is open!
