I've posted up some props for him. WWII vet, corpsman that served on Tarawa and Iwo Jima....stand up guy; I'll never know his story.I pulled together what I could from the official records. Two purple hearts, I only figured that one out when I changed the plates on mom's car because they expired, my mother applied for the plates in his last days.

He enlisted right after Pearl Harbor....

He enlisted right after Pearl Harbor in December 1941 and ETS'd in 1947. He enlisted for the duration of the war and didn't step foot on US soil for years. He supported my enlistment at seventeen when my mom was freaking out...they were a different generation.

With my dad...he may be small but he put me in my place growing up!

My dad was already in when Pearl was attacked (although just barely in). Army Corps of Engineers. Been all over the South Pacific Islands, and like yours, didn't set foot back on American soil until after the war was over.

My dad is now smaller than I am. Wasn't always like that though. Mom said his weight is now down to 147. He's about 6' or 6'1". He was always over 200 when I was growing up. Usually 210-215. He hasn't been this skinny since the army! But of course he was in much better shape then. :(

I'm a Hospital Corpsman myself Java...

The only enlisted corps (Hospital Corps) in the Navy since 1898, the only group that can become Honorary Marines. You have alot to be proud of your father for, we are required to be held at a higher standard than everyone else. With two Purple Hearts, I'll tell you, your father was well above that standard, and sounds like he should be held as an example for all HMs. Take care all.

best thing that ever happened to me. period.
I love every minute of being a Daddy....
cheers to all the old pops, new pops, and to the ones whose time is coming very soon....

I'm taking my father to the scotch bar to watch the final round of the US Open. I may need to spark up a Montecristo in his honor. :)
