To-do list for today:

1) Drive someplace in the flatbed truck for no reason

2) Throw a few TV sets in the "regular" trash

3) Burn the pile of old tires that has built up down by the creek

4) Get rid of all those unidentified chemicals in those weird barrels... Got a perfect rabbit hole in mind

5) Do the laundry in hot water; one piece at a time!

6) Find a Prius, let the brake off, and push it into a handicapped parking space so it can get a $3100 ticket ;)

exactly. the tree huggers have taken over.

Environmentalism is the new religion of America, creeping it's way into everyday life and policy like Christianity did at one time.

Oh well, the abandonment of religion in America has left a vacuum in people's lives. Most people need to have meaning and order. If they want to fill their empty lives with earth worship, that's fine by me.

I'm slightly annoyed by this (and I'm not Catholic so I don't think its a sacred day). I noticed Google totally ignored a sacred holiday celebrated by a millions of Americans for this libtard eco bullshit.

Yeah because Google is only in America.

The rest of the world uses morse code

Yes, lets have meaning and order from a bunch of people(humans) that conspired thousands to write books on their own accord in order to control and influence people.

Let's celebrate fictitious holidays and people that arguably, never existed.

Cindy, do you even know what Jesus' real name was according to the very few historical accounts of his existence?

99.9% of Christians think Jesus was born on December 25. 99.9% also think Jesus was his real name, and have no idea where the origin of the name Jesus came from or what it means in its native language.

happy earth day!!!!

Im kinda of tree hugger. In fact I hugged a tree this morning, we all did, my co-volunteers that is. Got my earth day t-shirt on and we're helping with a recycling drive. Been at it all week whenever we had some freetime. Im really proud of us, at the amount of shoes we collected for donation and we accumulated a ton of plastic bags and electronics.

We also helped with 'green' learning activities for the local middle school and it was super fun.

P.S. that pic made me wince!!

The majority of Americans still claim to belong to an organized religion and more than half of Americans claim to pray weekly.

There's a big difference between an abandonment of religion in America and a public refusal to recognize some religions and not others, making the easiest option to recognize none.

Religion still very much exists privately in America and that's how it should be. Belonging to a religion with larger numbers than another doesn't make that person's holidays or beliefs any more worthy of acknowledgement than another's.

I'm Catholic, btw.

So what about the 1.6 billion Muslims ? Do they get a Ramadan Google holiday? Or the billion plus hindus get their Diwali festival recognized by the search engine?

Yep, at least the Muslims do. IDK about the Hindus..I do encrypted searches, but today I happened to do a regular search and noticed the image. I already said it wasn't a big deal (that I was slightly irritated) and that it was fine by me if they want to find meaning by hugging trees, that's fine by me. You can't ignore that earth worship has made it's way into everyday life.

And those 99% of Christians that you referenced in your earlier post are probably not really Christians, but they are afraid to admit that to themselves and others.

I'm okay with that. Recognize none. I don't consider Good Friday a sacred holiday, but I'm obviously not going to like the sometimes destructive religion of environmentalism replacing Christ. Obviously not...since I'm a Christian. A google image isn't something to argue about or cause division over...that wasn't my intention. I just stated I was slightly annoyed.

it's not like they can put a crucifix in the L go google.... not everyone is religious but we all do live in planet earth and should take better care of it.

That's awesome Ebony, it's good to help, i just bought a new 1.28 fpg toilet and am gonna save water, makes me happy :)

I would think that if Jesus is truly in people's heart nothing should be able to replace it...

How is environmentalism destructive? It's a different set of values that end up with a particular destination. I understand that it has the potential to take down the economy (like the vegan movement) based on how our current economy is structured, but I don't recall that people died over it.

Christianity / Muslim / Hindus / others have all fought wars or their belief in a zombified deity. That seems to be more destructive then the other choice.

As for emptiness, yes, people need something to fill their empty life, but I would have thought that belief in continuing the existence on the earth rather then a magical afterlife where you praise some one for eternity is a little better. Jesus, next thing they'll say in this afterlife is there will be lesbian virgins or something.

I'm not arguing. :-) I'm just saying that just because organized religions' holidays aren't put out there, doesn't mean America is less religious. America shouldn't be publicly religious, but the majority of it's citizens are and can continue to be in their homes an churches.

The Earth is the one thing we all have in common, so I think it's the one thing we should all celebrate together. I don't see how it replaces, interferes with or takes away from religion in any sense.

You still didn't answer my question about Jesus. Or do you have to google it to pretend like you knew the answer all along?

And lol @ you don't know about hindi holidays and therefore they shouldn't be represented. Typical hypocrisy.

Omg why are u guys arguing over this?!

Cindy why would you be discontent with A GOOD THING!?!! people are actually doing something good for all of us.

There is so much shit happening to our ecosystems and even more serious potential consequence. Don't you want your daughter to have have cleaner environment to grow up and live in? there's no bad to increasing awareness of environmental conservation.

hey! aren't all you swarthy characters supposed to be big-time Jesus-heads? so what's your problem?? does your mom know that you're talking smack on her savior??

She's not discontent with Earth day Itself, she's discontent with Good Friday being left out of the Google image but Earth Day being in.

Catholic people don't "celebrate" Good Friday though so this is all a stupid argument. Good Friday is a sad day for Catholics. They even strip their churches of all plants and decorations so I doubt they'd even want it on the Google image anyways.

I'm arguing because Cindy decided to inject zealousness into this thread and someone with a rational argument needed to make a counter point.

Like others said, the earth belongs to everyone regardless of race or religion. To involve religion into that discussion has no place.

Jesus does too...jus' sayin'...

Yes,my mom is a very religious catholic. Everytime she brings it up I try to poke holes in her argument and all she does is scream irrationally and say I'm going to hell

I never said they shouldn't be represented? I said I didn't know. I wouldn't have a problem if it was. Go to the religious forum if you want to know what I do and don't know.

Sure, taking care of our planet is our ethical and moral responsibility, especially for our children and grandchildren. However, many environmentalists think that humans are a plague infecting the earth; go green at all costs...that conflicts with the betterment of humanity...those crazies annoy me...so I was slightly annoyed at seeing that image on Good Friday and I said so. lol

Look at what what the OP posted..and look at the hate I'm getting because I said I was slightly annoyed. LOL. I wasn't even going to do something in spite of the day like the OP did. LOL!

Jesus haters. (not you afeedz) ;)

But how does going green Conflict with the betterment of humanity?

If God made the Earth, don't you think upkeeping it as best you can would be a way to honor him?

Do the Easter bunny and Santa Claus belong to everybody too?

ABSolutely! wtf kinda question is that?? show me a kid that isn't (or wouldn't be, if given the chance) totally diggin' on the easter bunny and i'll show you a kid that's living under inhuman oppression. i'm not saying that everyone is or should be the same but, you show me a little kid from anywhere that wouldn't shit their pants at a big furry bunny bringing them a shitload of candy and i'll show you a kid that isn't allowed to be a kid...so, yeah...santa claus and the easter bunny are there for anyone.

Afeeds, I said go green at all costs, not just going green. :)

Thinking that humans are a plague on poor planet earth...how does that help humanity?

I already said that if people want to take care of the planet to find meaning in their lives, and if that makes them happy...that was okay with me. I said I was slightly annoyed at seeing the image today on Good Friday. I never said I was going to go out and waste a bunch of plastic bags and drive a truck around town for no reason.

Im one of those crazies who thinks
environmental =good guy
humans= parasite

The cost of implementing 'green' habits is potentially saving a bunch of money, better water quality, better air quality, and thus improving our biotic and aboitic factors in our ecosystem. side effects include disgruntlement to transition into this cheaper, cleaner, healthier lifestyle.

Im no extremist on any of those scales BTW, I still contribute my fair share of waste and pollution but perhaps less than the average american.

Afeeds, I said go green at all costs, even at the expense of modern civilization. Not just going green. :)

Thinking that humans are a plague on poor planet earth is not good for the betterment of humanity.

I'm not saying you hate the Earth or that you're going to go try to purposely damage it. I just don't see how going green at any cost could ever be bad for the betterment of humanity. I need an example I guess because I can only see going green, even at all costs, as having a positive impact on humanity.

And we are a plague on the Earth. It's not a theory. We've actually done damage to the Earth.

Being slightly annoyed does not = zealousness. Environmentalism is a religion. I didn't respond to the rest of your posts about Jesus because I've answered those dumbass questions a million times on this forum, and you are just being argumentative. I don't care what you think. Call me retardlou for all I care. I'm not an evangelical and it's not my job to tell you about Christ. I think after years of these questions I'm not obligated to answer the same questions to some dumbass who always thinks they're the first one to present me with those questions.

I never said we shouldn't take care of the planet. I even said it was our moral and ethical obligation to our children and grandchildren. I said I was slightly annoyed because I recognize the new religion of earth worship creeping into our lives. I said I was slightly annoyed, this shouldn't be a suprise post in a thread that the OP started to make light of Earth Day.

To all of you who feel good taking care of the planet, I'm fine with that. I feel good taking care of the planet too, I do think its the right thing to do. However, the earth will never come before people to me. The earth was here billions of years before we were here, and it will be here millions of years after we're gone.

I didn't mean to offend you ebony if I did by using that word. Or anyone else...

This should make everyone feel better.

so i googled this environmentalism religion because im somewhat preplexed by this.

so this site about environmentalism starts out by.

"The bottom line: The most consistent, dedicated environmentalists want you, and everyone else, to die. It's as simple as that."

Environmentalism.com home

I skimmed through the other stuff on that site too. Please tell me thats not what you read cind!

Oh no, not at all honey!:)

I think your thinking of extremes, I don't know any tree hugging hippies or environmentalists who wish doom upon humanity. I keep thinking of poison ivy from batman.lololol

That little rant was all for naught because all you did was deflect the origin of this argument which involved the whole Christian google thing.

You know on sunday that shit's gonna have eggs replacing the o's!

The orgin of your argument was ridiculous, all you did was attack me and basically call me stupid FOR NO REASON...like that matters to me. You don't like that I'm a Christian. All you have to do is go to the religion forum to read any of my posts... from the past four years. I don't have to google to answer your questions, and I'm not responding to dumb shit either. I know what I'm talking about. Go read my posts or don't. I don't care. I won't respond to you any more.

I used the words "slightly annoyed"....I wasn't pissed, and have never been pissed. lol

And I am aware of Easter's pagan origins...and I personally don't celebrate Easter as a religious holiday but was still "slightly annoyed" seeing the Earth Day image, and I said so damn it. :D

I know everyone is not that way. It's the new acceptable religion because it makes people feel good and gives them purpose. Live and let live I guess...

I have to go...my mom is watchin the kiddo so I'm GTFO the internet for now. ;)

Today's environmentalism movement is most definitely a religion (several variations on a core religion, actually).

It reminds me more of an Islamic-style religion where it entails a spiritual, economic and political element to it.

As an atheist, it amuses me to no end that we can have an "Earth Day" in our schools but they'd never allow a "Jesus Day" to be held.

USA! USA! USA!

I have recently discovered that wrapping my motorcycle around a tree with me on it does not qualify me as a "tree hugger".

yay! The less water processed at waste water treatment plants, the better! You know makes you feel better about the drinking water coming back into your home.
I also found out the city gives me a $60 rebate for getting an eco friendly toilet, YAY, win win! :P I ALMOST got the american standard that has a 1 gallon for #1 and a 1.6 gallon for #2 but I preferred to go with the kohler toilet...

wait.......is she pissed because google's logo is earth day and not good friday?

I cant possibly think of anything that could have been on google today other than Jesus at the cross which wouldnt be very tasteful...

Why is it even called good Frday if it's the day they killed him...

Dude, only an atheist could come up with this.

Let's try this: Humans live on a dung ball called EARTH that provides for all of our needs. Let's spend one day acknowledging the dung ball that allows us to continue to suck oxygen, eat food and drink water.

Hey now!

What makes you think for a minute that I wasn't outside yesterday in my back yard in a drum circle chanting prayers to Mother Earth asking for her forgiveness for our willful violation of her blessings of love and nourishment???

Here's my actual opinion, which I think I should share since this thread got big... I absolutely believe in protecting the earth, and this means to me: DON'T litter, and don't chop down the whole forest without replanting (yes logging is fine, but replant!), and I am also in favor of oil drilling, and doing so as safely as possible.

I do NOT believe that the EPA, nor any other governmental agency, has even the remotest thought of protecting the environment. They're in place for ONE reason alone: Protect their own jobs, and use environmentalism to extort money from corporations and even now from individuals (to wit: fining people for barbecuing during certain hours, fining people for washing cars in case the car's dirt goes into the ocean, etc etc).

Human beings and our intelligence is just as much an important part of the Earth as any flower or waterfall... And it should be treated WITH equal importance, including the promotion of business and industry without taxing/fining entities to death by environmental fees, fines, and taxes. All that this has caused, is a HUGE shift to overseas manufacturing, and of course has caused our dependence on foreign oil. If we had kept drilling under SoCal and offshore, we'd have more oil and gas than the mideast could imagine in their wildest nasty wet dreams!

I do MY part... I don't litter (and never have), I don't throw things in the trash that can be donated to someone who can use them, or that can be used somehow somewhere, and I always turn lights off when leaving rooms, and I don't waste water, heat, or anything.... I cannot tolerate extremists, whether they be Al-Quaida, or the Earth Liberation Front, or PETA... An extremist does not consider moderation and cannot comprehend reason and compromise. Wouldn't it be better if the ELF had gone around picking up beer bottles along the road in Oakland, rather than to burn down a half dozen car dealerships which sold Hummers and GMCs, etc? I had to laugh to myself when they showed all that on the news a couple years ago. I wonder how much pollution was put in the atmosphere by all those burning vehicles and buildings full of plastic and rubber? That act alone, shows their intelligence level. Kind of like the anti-abortion extremists murdering doctors and patients. Very ironic and stupid.

Earth Day to me, is nothing more than a time for forcing judgment and personal opinions on the whole country at the same time. They expect everybody to do something about it. Can you imagine if it became mandatory for all people of all walks of life to observe Christmas services, or to put on a Muslim head cover during Ramadan? That would blow up in our faces really fast!

You are right about that...I knew initially there really wasn't any legitimate reason for me to be annoyed at google for not showing an image that I wanted to see, why should they? I just was annoyed anyway, and I said so. I was careful to use the words slightly annoyed so people would understand it was a passing thought I had yesterday. I even remember rolling my eyes.

Looking back, I should have kept my opinion to myself on this one. I just don't care as much about those kind of things and I realize that probably makes me a bad person in some people's eyes. Oh well! :)

I think we agree on this point.

I do NOT believe that the EPA, nor any other governmental agency, has even the remotest thought of protecting the environment. This is where we slightly disagree.

I agree that the EPA (or any government agency for that matter) can go to far in one direction, but then again, I also see industry go too far in the other.

If there was the same concern provided by industry as you had in your first point, then I could see that the EPA go away.

The challenge is that industry doesn't care. As you can imagine, it's one thing for my personal feelings; it's another when my bonus is on the line or the profits are down.

Human beings and our intelligence is just as much an important part of the Earth as any flower or waterfall... Absolutely. This is (what I would consider) unintended consequences. I think it's rather short sighted to have people care about their backyard, but not care about the one down the street. Everyone should be subject to the same rules regarding pollution, taxes, or what not to keep the playing field fair. I know, it's a pipe dream.

I do MY part... I hear you on the extremist front.

Can you imagine if it became mandatory for all people of all walks of life to observe Christmas services, or to put on a Muslim head cover during Ramadan? That would blow up in our faces really fast!
Personally, I don't give two craps about Earth day nor do I give two craps about Good Friday. However, if I had to choose between the two that should be publicized, I would have picked Earth Day over Good Friday. If I had a choice overall, then I'd pick that each person celebrate their own damned choice in holidays.

This post is too rational for me. You're a motherfucker. :D

Today's environmentalism movement is most definitely a religion (several variations on a core religion, actually).
As always, the radicals have moved it too far to one side. Ah well.

It's one thing to recycle. It's another thing to chase down and shame people for buying hummers.

This is why I burn asbestos tires made from baby pandas in my back yard.

I realize there's a spectrum out there ranging from people who don't litter to people who are chaining themselves to trees.

The problem is, the crazies are driving the debate. Today's movement doesn't have that much to do with helping the environment and has more to do with pitting poor versus developed countries against each other.

Just like this little gem...
