Hansel...cool little bit of info about "Kinect"

I tried a few games demos on it. I'm still on the fence. I think it's a good idea, but I'm doubtful that video gamers want to move that much.

Especially at $150...MS$ needs to create some good bundles(with a good Kinect game included) to get it on every xbox.

The one that comes with it is fun....but feels almost like a set of demos of its own. Granted I haven't really played through them much though. Been playing COD Black OPS too much.

I was really supervised though by just how accurately it tracks you.

Time will tell how far this tech will go, but yeah I think it has way more potential outside of gaming. If they can put that into cell phones and cars as a sort of "smart" device to manage everything you're doing, and like they said maybe design military or health industry applications for it, it could open a lot of doors. I think some of it is just PR talk from Microsoft at this point though. It still has high latency and lacks 1:1 tracking for precise movements. It'll be up to consumers on how this tech will be accepted. They seem to be using Xbox 360 as a sort of testing ground for it before they can determine where else they can implement it.

Now this kinda surprised me-

"high latency"

I wouldn't say high latency...a small amount. But I wonder if that's not on purpose.

I can see 1:1 tracking being too difficult for some to master. I think if they wanted developers could eliminate it altogether for a true 1:1.

+ 1

I can remember when the mouse was a new device and not everyone had one. Imagine if you take the Kinect and 3D graphics and you almost have holodeck abilities.

It's high when compared to any other input device. What's funny is the creator tried blaming it on "humans". He's partially right, but he leaves out the fact that whatever latency human movement does have, Kinect essentially adds another layer to it.

The 1:1 tracking is entirely dependent upon the device's capabilities too; it's either there or it isn't, and developers can only do so much to work around limitations. That's why it'll be tough for developers to make games where precision is a factor, like shooters for example.

Here's a pre-release tech article on Kinect

kinect hates darkies, so it might not like me.

even though i'm pale as a stefka right now

(sorry stef, couldn't think of anyone whiter on this board off the top of my head)
