Hammer Updates

Since my hammie is a work of construction right now and I can not squat or deadlift I have been destroying my other body parts. My list of priorities now are;

Traps - 1"/2" snatch bar shrugs, static holds, inc shrugs.
Shoulders - OHP variations bb/db.
Forearms - manual labor/extensive db/barbell work.
Hands - plate pinches, crush gripper, static holds

I have replaced squat and deadlift day with a full hour of sparring with my friend 2X4 which is drilled to a tree in my backyard. All in all it sucks to have an injury but we have all been through it. One things for sure though, my hands are getting really strong and my knuckles are feeling/looking like mountain peaks.

If any of you guys have any suggestions for my traps or forearms I am all ears......................

Thanx

hang in the bro, i know the hammie thing, not a bit of fun:) i did come back in 5 weeks after mine and lap 330 as a ninth stone at nationals:) it can be beat, u know how to do it. hope to compete with u again next year, but u will be with the big boys then, i will still be a little lightweight:)

Polish, DG is one of my training partners/teammates. Mostly posts on the PL board. Definitely give him a shout, and he'll help you out if he can.

Thanx maximus. I look forward to competing again. Ever thought about going up in weight?....250's maybe?..........

if or when i do music city or any tourney with light, mid, and heavy, i will consider going to 250's, depends on how my strength is at that point in time. i don't see myself going over 250's though:) at least not now. if it is only light and heavy, i plan on staying a 225

makes sense

good luck man

Traps and forearms: face pulls with a rope. 3x10 with minimal rest. Works real well for me.

Hammer, I've heard you have a pretty pathetic grip:), so prioritizing that right now is a good idea.

If you want more hand/forearm training ideas for your recovery time....

Go to the local hardware store and by some nails. Find some that are a good size/dificulty for you and buy boxes of them. Here's a good chart depicting the yield strengths of various nails, bolts, etc.

metal bending chart

You can also get hot rolled steel rods(hrs is easier to bend) and cut your own lengths. I get mine at Home Depot. They sell 2 and 4 foot lengths of various diameters. You can also buy the 4 foot rods and coil them. Just make them as tight as possible, varying the direction of the twists and coils into as tight a ball as possible. I have a huge collection of "iron bonsai trees"(ala-Brookfield) laying all over my patio. My girl's getting a little tired of the piles of HRS steel, re-bar, bolts, nails, and ties laying all over but I think its nice and decorative:)

I don't know if you have either yet, but go buy Brookfield's books "Mastery of Hand Strength," and "The Gripmasters Manual." They're cheap and the best investment you can ever make for hand/grip training. There's a shitload of great ideas in there. You can get them through Ironmind.

My crush strength progressed very slowly because I was having so much fun training all other aspects of grip for so long that my crush suffered. If you want any specific ideas for hand/grip training, pm me or call me man. I love yappin' about grip stuff.;)

Good luck with your hammies.
